In the planning stages to have a boot made for the top on my 1911 touring. I have a few original pictures that I have collected but no details or measurements. If you have a boot for your top and could take some pictures, details, and measurements and could either put them on the Forum or email them to me at hdaw01@hotmail.com I would appreciate it.

If you are not doing the work yourself and are willing to pay someone to do it, you should contact Mark and Sheri Cameron in Owatonna, Minnesota.

mcam@hughes.net

They make and sell top boots - I believe they use original factory drawings and also have original boots that they use for reference.

Additionally, Mark and Sheri completed a very authentic restoration of a 1911 touring within the past couple years.

A top boot was not supplied by Ford until the 1913 Model year.

During the 1913 model year, two manufacturers made boots for our cars. They are similar in appearance, but different where the flap goes over the front top socket. They both use two common sense fasteners for the flap. Also, 1913 used three leather straps, and in 1914 they changed to woven strapping. The material is the same as the top material.

I have an original 1914 Ford boot, woven straps on it.

Harry your father scaled that 11 touring off of a model, so I'd say that the bows might not be the same size as most 11's, you might want to have good measurements before buying one ready made

I contacted the people Eric suggested. They confirmed what John Regan said that Ford did not make them until 1913. If I can find out how they are held on to the car, I have a person who is going to try to make one in a couple of weeks. He just finished repairing the top for me after the wind caught it wrong and caused damage. Pictures I have found are not very clear as to how they are held in place. That is some of what I was hoping to come up with here on the Forum.

If Ford did not supply a boot until the 1913 year, then why does the 1912 Ford catalogue show a boot on its 1912 cars?

If you look at the 1911 catalogue you do not see top boots. But from the 1912 catalogues on you see the boots.

You can check this out in McCalley's book.
