there's a screw in the differential case housing that holds the inner thrust washer. mine looks beat up and isn't holding the washer snuggly. i think i need a replacement screw... but i'm not having luck figuring out what to call it for making the order.

thanks!

Not aware of any such screw. Can you post a photo?

No screws, just pins that hold the steel plates on each side of the thrust washer.

Lang's carries the pins.

The washers aren't supposed to be snug. The washers "float" on the pins. The pins keep the washer from spinning against the housing. And NEVER allow the pins to extend past the washers into the bearing material.

The pins almost always need replacing. It's common to drill a hole through the old pins and use a tap to thread through the hole and push (pull) the old pin out. Sometimes just placing a screw in the tapped hole and pulling on the screw will remove the pin. They're a light press fit.

The vendors also have oversized pins should the hole in the case be buggered-up and needs re-drilled. I've even had to make pins that were over-oversized because of some previous "fix" on the housing.

If you haven't already done it, get the MTFCA axle book by Glen Chaffin. That will explain all.
