Can anyone tell me what years this box was used and perhaps its value. The lid is lower in front than in the rear and the latches hold well. The coils all buzz but I have not tested them for amperage draw. It states that it is made by Ford. It has no key.

I believe it is late 17. sometime in late 17 or 18 the center support was added. Yours does not have the center support. Your lid with the three piece side came out in late 17. the 15,16 and early 17 tops were one piece.

Thank you for again Dave. You usually have the answers I need and I appreciate the depth and breadth of your knowledge.

I need a 1913 coil box what is the value of this box with the four coils that buzz.

Are the 1913 boxes always wood or are some of them metal ?

Frank:

The late 13 coil boxes were metal. The late 13 coil boxes was very similiar to what you have. I would use it until you can find one with a flat box. In other words the top of a 13 box is flat and does not slant down towards the front as your does. The top is also flat where it meets (sits) on the coil box. Th top is also one piece with rounded corners.

Again thanks Dave. Can you establish a value of what I have for trading stock ?

I'm no expert Frank, and not trying to intrude on your question to Dave but have seen similar items for as much as $175 -$200 and as little as $100 at some of the swap meets.

I bought one just like that at Chickasha this year for $40 with no switch. The box is typical of 1915 - 1918.

The lid is typical of 1917 - 20 perhaps.

The switch is typical of 1916 - 1919 (later on TT I think)except it should not have the brass plate on it.

Additionally, your switch appears to be the 17-22 variety, with a reproduction 14-16 switch plate on it.

I have a restored late 13/14 metal coil box for sale if you need one.

I agree with Larry Smith - it appears to have a stamped metal cover switch (as opposed to the hard rubber switch) with a reproduction plate on it.

According to the records, the stamped metal cover was introduced very late in the 1917 model year. However, my experience studying 1917 Fords with known histories, including my dad's July 1917 touring, is that the stamped metal cover didn't actually appear on cars until the 1918 model year (August 1917 or later).

Brandon, I have two 26-27 coil boxes with brackets and coils to trade. I don't need coils because I am running a distributor on the car and the coil box is just for show.

All I need is a shiny black box with a switch on it as my firewall will not be drilled at all and I would have to gut it to mount it. It would be a shame to ruin one that is perfect.

If the box's mounting bolt holes are square, it is late 1917-22. If round, it's earlier; 1916-early/mid '17.

R.V. as you can plainly see the mounting holes are round so that makes it correct because it came off of our 1916 Touring.
