I've found a RH 1926/27 rear roadster/coupe fender at ebay/USA and now a LH rear fender locally here in Sweden.
There are unfortunately differences and I think I know why - the LH rear fender must be a european drop frame fender.
Just to be sure I post a few photos to check if anyone in the US has seen anything like this LH one?
Note the supposed drop frame fender was made from two pieces of sheet metal. In my 1926 swedish price list of parts the drop frame runabout/coupe LH rear fender has #34840.
Now I'd like to find a RH drop frame rear fender for coupe/roadster - I may have to keep looking for some time considering the two seat versions were sold in very low numbers over here. (I may have to try remodel my US RH fender)
Ive never seen a fender that was in 2 peices. or at least never noticed it, is it taller than the other style , looks that way in one picture.
Mike, the picture does show it to be taller and the distance between the body mounting surface and the crown of the fender appears to be at least twice as much, if not more. Just when you think you've seen everything something like this comes along. Man, are we lucky to live in the States where everything was more uniform?
The rear crossmember has more arch on the drop frame chassis parts made at the Trafford Park plant near manchester, it makes the rear spring ride about 3.5" higher than the pre improved US cars, it's more than the standard US 26/27 crossmember. The risk of the tires rubbing the fenders when the springs are bottoming out made it necessary for Ford GB to make special fenders for the drop frame cars. The 25's needed a lot of special body parts too, but for 26/27 only special fenders were necessary. The front end was lowered with a special front axle & spindles. http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/179374/202362.html
I think I'm building a roadster pick up out of the extra parts accumulated during my roadster project, looks like it'll be a drop frame car. We'll see what I can find more..
