I just went to change the oil in the T and there was a piece of metal all rolled up laying in the drain plug, it is not bronze it is then steel like maybe a shimm? I unrolled it and it looks like it was about a half inch square, still runs fine and not funny noises any suggestions?
might be a busted off dipper,,, might be a good idea to pull of the pan and take a look
photo? with hand or coin to show size.
Could be the funnel off the inside oiler. I found one similar to your description. My magneto just quit, and I switched to battery and ran it that way for about 10 years even on long tours. Fortunately I had a magneto oiler and between what was left of the inside oiler and the magneto post oiler, the bearings were not damaged. I rewound a magneto coil and decided to fix the magneto after 10 years and I found the funnel off the oiler had come off and must have stuck on the magnets which in turn cut into the coil and damaged it. Unfortunately you have to pull the engine and transmission to fix it.
If you don't have an auxhillary oiler and if you don't find a dipper off a rod bearing, I would suggest you pull the hogs head and check the oiler.
Norm
It is thin but very rigid
Could it be what's left of a magnet keeper?
If it is a magnet keeper, do I need to pull mag? The mag does not work, also could a oil dipper be able to pass to drain area?
If it is a magnet keeper the whole engine will have to be pulled. It may be a good idea to pull the starter and look in at the magnets while someone slowly cranks the engine to check for a missing keeper.
