I fitted a new set of bands for a fellow T-er today and after I had snugged the trans cover down, I discovered that the spring between the band ears was too short to push the bands away from the drum. There was enough flex in the band to make it lose contact but not enough to push the pedal back off.
I was not wanting to do the trans cover fitment all over again, so came up with the following. I wound the external adjuster right out of the cover and fitted a compression spring inside it. It was about 1/2" too long to go right inside the adjuster, but when I re-fitted it, it compressed inside the adjuster as it engaged on the end of the pedal shaft. Now the pedal has its own return spring independent of the band spring.
I was quite pleased with myself. Did I do well or not?
