My carb is leaking gasoline while the car is running, or not , while the gas supply is on. It trickles out of what I assume to be a small over flow hole at the air intake where the heat pipe goes in. Is the float stuck ? any quick fix to this while the carb is still on the car.

I hope I made sense, I'm a newbie.

Thank you
John

Sounds like a plugged bowl vent. Easy to ream out with a drill bit. You will have to remove the carb to get at it. Once it's off, look at the engine side of the carb (with the air intake on your right). You'll see two side by side holes in the side of the intake end. The outermost hole contains the end of the choke shaft. The hole to its immediate left is the bowl vent. Work a drill bit (a little smaller than the hole) in there by hand. You'll probably get lots of debris out of there.

The float valve is either crudded up, something is stuck in it or it's shot.
You can remove it without removing the carb.
Remove it and tell us which style it is.

John, you would be better off in taking the carb off and working on it on your work bench. There are only two bolts that hold it on to the intake manifold. Probably a couple of cotter keys holding the throddle rod and the gas mixture rods on. Plus the gas line needs taken off. If you work on it on the car, clean the area under it real good in case a part takes off on you so you will be able to find it. Regardless, on or off the car, you need to take the nut off the bottom of the bowl. There is a felt washer under it. Tap the bowl gently and try to remove it without taring up the gasket between it and the body of the carb. There is a pen that the float hinges on, remove it and the float. You should find either a small part that is pointed or what looks like a ball. In either case that is where it is probably leaking. If pointed, clean good and if it does not have a groove in it, put it back and reassemble. If a ball, take needle nose pliers and unscrew the part that holds the ball. Clean good and reassemble. If it is pointed and grooved, you will probably need to replace. I have clamped them in a drill press and take a very fine file and resurfaced them but that is iffy. If you should take the carb off the car you can take some carb cleaner spray or brake cleaner spray and check the vent holes. Next time you order parts, order a couple of the bowl gaskets to at least have them on hand if needed. Just take notice of what goes where when you take it apart so you can reassemble. A T carb is pretty simple.
