Posted back in 2009.... I sure miss Bruce McCalley...

By Bruce McCalley on Sunday, December 27, 2009 - 09:34 am:
I installed one of John's voltage regulators on my '23 T a number of years ago and it has worked perfectly ever since. However, since installing this regulator the T uses more oil, and the oil leaks out faster. Also the tires have worn and the paint is not as nice as it was before. John has absolutely refused to do anything about This.
If I go back to the Ford cutout, will these problems correct themselves?

By John F. Regan on Sunday, December 27, 2009 - 09:49 am:
Mr. McCalley:

Based on info you have previously provided, I can only conclude and repeat what I have told you in the past - namely - that your car is NOT a Model T Ford. It likely is some sort of GM product. There is a book, now out of print, called "Model T The Car That Changed the World" that I would recommend you obtain and read carefully. It also has large pictures in it if you find the words in the book too difficult. That book will help you identify what vehicle you actually own and perhaps lead you to eventually resolve whatever difficulty you are having.

By Bruce McCalley on Sunday, December 27, 2009 - 10:17 am:
John: Changing the subject and then asking me to purchase an expensive, out-of-print book, is not the proper way to treat a non-paying customer! Not only that but I just dame in from the garage and one of the tires is flat! AND it is a Model T...my mother told me so!

I just hope the new folks here understand the three previous posts. (Grin)

hahaha! Love it.

I only briefly met the man through a few forum posts here. It's plain to see that his presence will be felt for years to come.

Dan,

Thanks for reposting the thread. A lot of us sure miss Bruce (RIP). We miss his humor, his wit, his wealth of knowledge, his willingness to help any of us better understand our Ts and his humble attitude. Even when I asked very basic questions – he never made me feel like “he knew more than I did” – even though we both knew he had forgotten more about the Ts than I will ever know about them. If there are some new folks that have not had a chance to meet Bruce or to know anything about him – please see: http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/257047/267551.html for a glimpse of how several of us felt about him. And if any of you have some other similar postings or stories – this would be a good place to share them.

Grateful to have known him,

Hap l9l5 cut off

I had the pleasure to meet the "rat pack" (Bruce, John Regan and Ron Patterson) on the 2010 Chickasha Swapmeet. No doubt in my mind that those three had a certain friendship - which I am sure John and Ron still has - despite that they all three lived pretty far apart from each other.

Here you have Bruce, John's back, Ron (in the green jacket) and Don Lang (with the cap) upon arrival to the Swapmeet. As the daredevils they where they drove in Rons Toyota which at the time was suspected to do things by them selves.

The nice gentleman in the red jacket is Dave Hjortnæs.

I'm pretty sure that's not Don in the cap.

I took a copy of Bruce's book to Chickasha one year for him to autograph. I had met him several times and had sent him some info about '15 Coupelet and Sedan production figures, which was sent to me by Trent Boggess. Bruce included the info in his Encyclopedia. Anyway, Bruce knew I was (still am) restoring a '15 Coupelet, so when I handed him the book to sign, I said, "Say something about my Coupelet."

He wrote: "That is one horrible-looking Coupelet!" Gotta' love it. :-)

Mike, I think you just summed up Bruce... :-)

The man up close in the cap is Phil Ganz.
There is no camera fast enough to photograph Don Lang in the parking lot before the Chickasha gates open.

I was away for 3 days and am just catching up on forum posts tonight. I do miss Bruce. He was a very unique and special friend. We spent a lot of hours researching together at the Henry Ford Museum and the wild accusations were just part of the fun that always accompanied any meetings whether in person or on the forum.

Many of you knew him long before I met him but none of you loved him more than I did. Rest in peace Bruce - my life is so much richer because of you.

Dan, Thanks for the repost!

One of the last things that he posted on the forum always puts a smile on my face! The funny thing is I didn't know him, but it was a response to what I said.

In short:

By Ron Patterson on January 26, 2012 - 10:09 am:

I spoke to Bruce this morning. He is at home, doing much better and sounded great.
I explained we all had been very concerned about him.
He was very appreciative of messages and prayers he had received; in fact he said God had contacted him complaining about all the prayers. As you can tell from that comment, Bruce's rapier wit is not diminished.

Mattthew G on Thursday, January 26, 2012 - 10:46 am:

Thanks for passing on the good news Ron.

Wait a minute, now that Bruce has a direct line to God, we should ask him all of those unanswered questions about Fords!

;)

God is a Chevy fan.

LOL.... Hope when it's my time, I can still have a sense of humor ....as I have said before ( and yes , I did steal this ), when I go , I want to go like my grandfather ,peaceful and in my sleep, not screaming and yelling as they went over the cliff like the 3 passengers in his car.

Dan Knoll, I am ROFL!

Bruce's effect will be felt nearly as long as the model T continues to be known. I hope his name is remembered nearly as long. The model T and antique automobiles in general are very fortunate that he graced our hobby with his presence.
I have been fortunate to have known several people that are/were "one in a million". Bruce was a hundred times that.

I first met Bruce in 1979 when my family and myself went to the USA. Like a lot of others he was part of our extended family and we always loved meeting up with him. The success of the club is not only due to his editor skills but the extensive time he spent in his own time looking after members personally.

The first time we went to the USA Bruce picked us up at the airport and took us to his home in Burbank. Bruce had gone out and purchased 2 airbeds for the children who were 3 and 5 years old. He drove us around LA before we set off to tour around in a hire car.

We stayed along the way with then president Doug Anderson who had a Avocado farm near San Diego. Some how we ended up with a flour sifter that we got at Doug's place. Upon returning to LA my wife gave it to Bruce to give back.

A few months later we got a letter from Bruce,
It started out in his usual way with an extra comment after the usual Dear Peter,
This one - The address
and Great Britain Royal Prison Farm.

in the letter he says
"I was not aware that I was to return the sifter to the Andersons, I thought it was yours and was going to send it to you. I've been using it to clean out the cat box so will wash it off a bit and give it back.

He signs off
Bruce (SOB) Sweet Old Bruce.

I met Bruce in 1962, when I was 19 years old. We've had lots of fun together, but what I enjoyed the most was helping him with articles for the Vintage Ford. I sure wish the Vintage Ford was like it was when Bruce was editor. I'm getting tired of reprints, speedster articles, and Chevrolet articles! I'd like to see Jay start with 1909 again, and work his way up to 1927, using all the new data. That should take some time.

Larry, check with Jay, you maybe could be our new editor. (probably a very easy job)
I also talked with Bruce at Chickasha a number of times.
