Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2012: Michelin wheels.............

Hi all,

My brother just bought a Model T 1917 to restore. With Ford, there was a lot of parts. Among these parts, there are four wheels Michelin 30 x 3. 1/2 with the four mounting hubs. The wheels Michelin 30 x 3. ½ T Ford are very rare, are often found with Ford wheels Michelin 12x45 size (European dimension), but very rarely 30x 3 ½.

I think these wheels would be perfect for a speedster.

My brother wants to sell (he may well find the money to restore 1917). If a member of MTFCA is interested in these wheels before he put them for sale on EBay, I can send you the e-mail from my brother.

Olivier

I just purchased a set of those identical wheels in the 30 x 3.5 size. How did you determine they are Michelin ? Disteel also manufactured a set quite similar.

Here is an advertisement wheels with Michelin 730 x 130, which allowed the mounting of wider tires.
The wheels are 730 x 130 appeared in 1925. 30 x 3 ½ sounds older.

Manufactured in the US by Budd. If you think the lug nuts look familiar check out your local Dodge.

I have seen 3 of these here in Adelaide, they are also stamped Michelin. Very rare down here and a very nice find.

Thanks for the education, fella's ! The set I have are marked L & R on all the lug nuts - I'll have to examine them more closely for a manufacturers name. I have discs on my Racer (see profile) and from what information I gathered up, mine were made by M.U. (Motor Utilities) Products. They also made salesmen sample boxes for the rear of runabouts.
