Is there a cotter pin beyond the nut on the center bolts of the rear and front springs for 1912?

I have not found any on any of my original cars but have read that the cotter pins would be correct on those bolts.

I have seen them both ways on the originals but you would think there should be a cotter pin.

The Parts and Price Book, Sept 1912 clearly shows the cotter pin hole in the bolt, pn 3811.

Seems correct to place a split pin in the bolt under the square nut.

Dan,

Thanks and you are right about that with respect to the front spring bolt.

. BUt if you look at part number 3837 , which is the center bolt for the rear spring , it does not show a cotter pin hole in the bolt.

Greg

Sure, its there, that cotter pin hole.

Just can't see it, the photographer rolled the bolt on the wrong side. :-)

I thought these were drawings Dan.

Just curious that I have at least 5 originals and none have the hole. I do have one original that has the hole on the rear spring bolt but the head is not a fat, tall one like is shown , so its probably a later replacement.

But on all three of my 1912's and my 13 Touring, I have the 3837 with no cotter pin hole. So I don't know what to think about that.
