Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2012: Gas Head Lamp Tube Routing Question

I am plumbing the head lamps on an early '11 touring and the only picture I can find of the tube configuration between the carbide generator and the front of the car is Kim Dobbins' in the Nov/Dec 1995 issue of the Vintage Ford. The picture shows the tube angling away from the frame at about the crank case arm to the forward running board bracket where it is attached with a special bracket. There also appears to be an elbow on the end of the tube where the hose attaches. This 1910 was an unmolested car when Kim took the pictures so I believe the plumbing to be correct.
Gas Tube
Is this typical of '09-'14 plumbing?

Now that I am looking at an enlargement of the photo, it looks like the special bracket holds the hose which makes another turn then goes on the tube. There is no elbow on the end of the tube.

Also Phil Mino's site was an immense help. His original '11 has some great photos of the gas tubes.

I have additional information. I fabricated the whole gas tubing set-up on my mid 1911 with information from Dobbins, Mino, and Crenshaw. Send me a private message with your email, and I can get the information to you and take pictures of my results. Too much to post here.

I have studied the pictures on Phils web site but I hadn't seen the photos in the above thread. They are all great pictures but none of them show the end where the generator hose attaches.
Phils car has three clips holding the tube where as Kims car has two. I wonder if Kims' 1910 originally had three clips. Maybe the hose got damaged and shortened and the owner removed the rear clip and bent the tube over? Supporting the end of the tube with the hose doesn't seem right.

The picture above of the Dobbins 1910 is typical until about february 1911. Then there were changes. I believe there were only the two clips on the left side frame rail during the early period. There was a clip on the running board bracket which held the rubber hose. Here is another angle of the same car, this beautiful photo was taken by Lee Crenshaw back in the early 70's.

Here are pictures of all 3 clamps that hold the brass gas tube in place on my 10 T.

Kim,
Thank you for the excellent pictures. You pretty much covered the whole assembly.

Hello:
Is the tubing made from brass and is it 3/8" outside diameter?
Could someone confirm as I'm doing a Torpedo and have no existing plumbing.
Thanks!

The tubing is brass 1/4" OD. The connectors were, I believe, cast brass and soldered to the brass tubing. I was not able to find any brass connectors, so I bought the copper connectors and touched them up with brass paint later.

The brass tubing is 1/4" and is available from McMaster-Carr at a reasonable quantity and
cost. You might check with Bob Scherzer to see if he has ever cast the brass tee.
I fabricated the the tubing clamps from 1/2" strapping material. The double ended hose clamp
was fabricated from 1" blued steel strapping material. The small end clamps to the running board brace and the large end is sized to fit the red rubber hose. There is a bolt in the middle that applies tension to hold the bracket in place.
