I haven't pulled a T engine since (I think) about 1960.
I'd forgotten what a pain it is.
Steering column, firewall, etc.
This car hasn't been apart for 60 or 70 years...if ever, so the bolts are fighting me every inch of the way.
OK..enuff whining for one day.
At least I don't have to hurry.

Which car Bob?

I know what you mean.

My brother and I were able to pull the engine out without an engine lift and only minimal tools. We had to take the radiator off first, of course. We took the hogshead off, pulled the cylinder head, removed the pistons, removed the manifolds, etc. Basically, we did anything we could to lighten the engine. We then undid all the bolts holding the engine to the oil pan. My brother grabbed the tailshaft of the transmission and I grabbed the front, and we were able to pull it forward.

From start (which I say is draining the radiator) to finish (the engine completely out of the car), it took less than four hours. It went surprisingly smoothly!

It's my old rusty Tudor.
It's all Mike Conrad's fault. He told me about this rebuilt engine that was still in Dave Johnson's shop for cheep.
This wouldn't be so bad except most of the bolts are rusted in place.
I've had to grind the nuts off a couple and hacksaw a couple more.
I'm having fun, though!

Half the fun is grease under the fingernails and a little blood on the knuckles, along with a few well delivered explicatives! :-)

I read a medical article recently that compared two groups doing a difficult tasks. The group who used swear words were reportedly less frustrated, did a better job and had less increase in blood pressure.

So don't feel bad if a few cuss words slip out!

Cheers
schuh

It's all my fault!! Ha!
You have not pulled a T engine in 52 years? I don't believe it. Try not to set yourself or the car on fire cutting all the bolts off.
If need a hand or a tissue [for all the whining] call me. Sure will be nice to give that poor low band a rest going up hills huh

Mike....you gonna bring anything older than '14 to the GEAA picnic?
I thought I could cuss pretty good till I went to work in a machine shop. Those guys had my face red all the time...but I was a kid in them days.
I think I have a pretty good handle on ALL the cuss words and use 'em.

The last thing I did as prez of that club was retire that award. Soooo good luck on that one. I think I will borrow a candy colored T bucket street rod with blown big block and park it in the middle of field just to see Rick J's face! Then again may not want to be the guy to give him a heart attack. I may instead pre date my 15' into a 1909- got any red paint See yea there!

Bob, is Dave still in Wilkinson? Somewhere I heard he was moving again, maybe to the east side of the state. I'm starting to think about my next project, getting a spare engine ready to replace the tired one in my 15 touring. He does good work but it's hard to keep up with him.

The Ford book gave a two man crew 38 minutes to remove an engine!! 42 to reinstall the engine. You guys were slackin on the job. Ole Henry would have been on your case!

Yup, Dave is still in Wilkeson. Haven't heard anything of him moving (again).

Jon
I bet the guys they timed for the book had removed more than one engine and they weren't in their seventies!
You're probably right about the slackin'...I ain't no ball o' fire.

Don't wanna' "demoralize" ya' Bob. But pulling your engine out in four hours beats the 5 or 6 hours it took me, and the sad thing is, it probably took me about three or four times that many hours to put it back in! Seems like every step of the way was a wrestl'n match; nothing seemed to fit quite right. Close, but just off enough to be difficult. One thing I didn't count on though was having to replace the front cross member. Not only was THAT quite a job, but I think maybe that's why things did not go back in without a struggle! Had a terrible time with one of those oil pan ear bolts! Yeah,....I'm in my '70's too,.....makes a difference, huh? See ya' Friday and/or Saturday,...harold

Well, the book says 3/4 hr.
I think 3/4 WEEK is more like it!
