Hey Guys,
Im nearing completion of a long overdue rear axle build. Im in a 25 touring with a set of aftermarket hasler springs. There the shorter version not the big honeycomb type. I need some tricks for this job. The spring bases wont stay in place when the shackles are mounted. The shackles spread out too much for the backing plates to go on. Im fairly frustrated trying to put this together. The other problem is the large bolt that goes through the back of the axle case. Do I need a spring spreader for the leafs or a compressor for the springs? Any help would be much appreciated.
I must be having another senior moment. I'm having trouble picturing the situation. Are the springs too wide to fit between the backing plates? I can't imagine a large bolt through the back of the axle housing. Can you post some pictures?
Hey Steve - Thanks for posting. A better way to describe my issue is: Is it best to mount the pancake hasslers to the leaf ends with the shackle pins, then clamp the springs flat? And then raise the axle assembly into place and connect the Hassler's mounting bolt into the hub backing plate? Also, can this reassembly be done without a spring spreader for the leaf? Bottom line...I need a quick tutorial on reassembly of the Hasslers and rear axle assembly.
Didnt jump up top, re posting.
