I wanted to replace these nuts on my 22 touring cutoff so I ordered part #381B. The problem is the perch nuts I got in the mail are a size larger size how come?
I ordered the same, but mine were a match - no problems?. Double check part number? git on the phone and ask em, that's what I would do.
Yep, sometimes they get the part numbers mixed up. I've run into that before.
If someone removed the perches off your car in the past maybe the threads were buggered up in the process (very common problem) Then the repair may have been to turn them down and rethread for a smaller size nut?
Only front spring perches with a different size nut I've seen were european drop frame perches - rarely seen outside europe.
Do you really have a '22?
Lang's catalog:
Front spring perch nut Item Number : 3821B
Year : 1919-1927
Front spring perch castle nut Item Number : 3821
Year : 1909-1919
Which one did you order? I do not see a #381B. Check your invoice for the correct item.
Good luck!
Dave
The picture of the nut you received looks like a 3821B which is the correct nut for a 1922. The nut is tapered to fit into the bottom of the wishbone and hold it centered under the axle.

I'd say Roger nailed the answer. I just replaced the perches on my 1926 as the threads were in such bad shape I didn't trust them. Knowing how frugal (cheap) some could be, turning down and re-threading would have been an expedient repair.
I ordered part #3821B I forgot the 2 in my first post. The touring cutoff is a 22 it even has the limited edition one piece front spindles. So I guess my front perches where repaired at some point, and that's why the new nuts are too big. Thanks James
