I've been trying to do a search and access is either denied or I get some other message but no results. A while back someone talked about building a hot tank so I'm in the process but can't find the post. Does anyone have it and does anyone know what the temp is in a hot tank at an engine shop?

The hotter the better, just under boiling.

I have a hot tank question: How much rust will a hot tank remove off of rusty items, if any? Will it remove paint ? I'm referring to a commercial type like at a machine shop... though I had the head done , I never asked if they bead blasted it after.

Most hot tanks will remove paint, grease, oil, carbon and if left long enough, must rust. However rust removal takes time and gets expensive if they charge you for it.

A word of caution. If sending engine parts make sure every trace of white metal is removed first, or it may get super expensive, as the metal can contaminate some types of tank chemicals, leading to the need to refill the tank with a new batch. I left just a couple of the locating plugs in some main bearings and that was enough to put a very thin coating of white metal on all the parts in the tank! Thankfully they were not too bothered by this little bit of contamination.

Allan from down under.
