anyone know what the thread size is for the early 1911 gas tank cap with the outlet outside the frame?
my tank is shot and no one seems to have a new one in stock, so am forced to make one, or come up with a used one.

thanks

The gas tank filling cap is the same thread size for all years, except the torpedos in 'll and '12. I hope I'm right on this.

Stuart,

The tank / cap thread size is the same for all years of Model T. Not sure what the size is, I just take caps off and put them on. I can't see why your old cap fitting would be unusable if the tank is being scrapped one could use the fittings from the old tank your fabricated tank.

Have you tried calling Ron's Machine shop in Shandon OH? BJ and Casey have a lot of connections, they should be able to locate one for you in a day or less.

unfortunatly the cap fitting on the tank is cracked in three places through the threads. the bottom fitting has a crack also but could be used. that seems to be a std 1/2" pipe thread. i tried a couple of other dealers, but no has any. haven't tried rons mach shop. he's not far from me.

Use a Ford "Anglia" or "Prefect" radiator cap, fits straight on.

You could buy a 1913 - 22 tank, patch the outlet hole and move the outlet to the end a lot easier than making a tank.

There are a dozen T part dealers across the country, surely one of them has the tank you need.

I was going to ask why not just use a filler fitting from a later tank. But then I went down and looked at the early tank I have and compared it to later round tanks I have. It looks and installs differently. Then I looked a bit closer. It looks like if you installed it from the inside before the tank was closed, it would work well and look right.
Sorry, all the tanks I have are earmarked for a car I have. But rusted tanks should be easy to get for a donor.
And the same cap fits every tank I have, even the early one.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

Measuring my cap (1916 touring), it is 2-1/8" diameter and gauges out at 14 threads per inch. With only two or three threads on the cap my thread gauges might be off a smidge. I got mine from either Snyders or Langs.
