Taken a couple of minutes before I joined the two piece crankshaft club. I got into a small hill and put my foot into a little to stay ahead of traffic and Bang she just let loose. We ended up getting a ride on the Triple A taxi home and met up with Clayton and his car in Pendleton Oregon that evening. The Special was running great. I averaged around 56 mph at about 1500 to 1800 rpms, not too bad if you ask me. She sounded good and had plenty of power she just figured she wanted the new accessory crank on the market and it happened to be one called the "2-Piece"!!

Well after recovering from our trip to Bonneville Salt Flats and Speed Week, I am now looking for a good crank for the Special. I broke the Crank shaft about 40 miles outside of Portland Oregon between 1 and 2. Would anyone have a good double E crank or even a late 1926-1927 as I have heard they are the strongest for building a speedster engine?

I need to find what size the journals are, hopefully I can do it before the end of labor day weekend. I do know when it let loose it didn't hurt rod or main the bearings so that is good.

Before I put the crank in, is there a way I can balance the rotating assembly in my shop? I am not planning on pulling the pistons out of the bores, I'll just shove them to the top out of the way, I think they are balanced all ready. I had this motor built 8 years ago By a fiend of mine who did me a favor, and I didn't have the cash or knowledge at the time to have the crank magnafluxed and checked for cracks, didn't know I would need to!

Hope you're lucky enough to find another crank that fits all your babbitt bearings :-)
Here's Tom Carnegie's article on crank shaft balancing at home: http://www.antiqueautoranch.com/montana500/septnewsletter/page4.html
