It often amazes me ... the detail many of these 'old' photographs can show .. even reflections, and recognizable items on the inside of windows (like Christmas wreaths in the WT's windows)...Looks like a long shutter speed.on a bright day.

I noticed the touring car and tudor have that long hooded touring car fairly well boxed in. What is with the hood covers on the tudor and touring? do the keep the rain out or heat in?

Steve - Those hood covers are winter blankets to keep the heat in. I have one & it has a vinyl like outer cover and I think horse hair on the underside. Mine even has holes for the hood handles.

Could a lot of these shots be on glass plates? Shackelton's photographer & Scott's too, used cameras of that type and the photo's are stunning for their detail. Probably from the same era. The car shots might be slightly newer though. Notice the blur of the moving man in front of the truck and the relatively clear people standing still at the rear. Long exposure for sure.
