Does the 41 Oldsmobile have right hand threads on the right and left hand threads on the left side? Or is it right hand threads on both sides? It's got cap nuts on it so I cant chase the threads to find out.

Yes, I think so - One guy in this thread has a 1940 Olds with LH threaded lugs on the left side, another guy says GM kept on with the practise on their full size cars until 1963:

I've only seen it on My '53 Dodge & '50s Volvos -somehow it seems the automakers adopted this practise without much testing whether it was really needed? More cost involved than choosing between say positive or negative ground, so they must have really thought it was needed - still thankfully few looses their lug nuts today when all are RH thread?

My 1940 Plymouth had left and right handed wheel mounting threads. So it was a safety practice on many vehicles from many companies back in the good old days.

It's been a long time but I don't seem to remember my 41 Chevy having left hand threads on it? I know the Chrysler products of the era did.

my 1941 oldsmobile had all right hand lug nuts on it. my 1941 plymouth has left hand and right hand bolts that hold the wheels on. they are marked L and R on top of the bolt. pretty sure mopar was the only one of the big boys that did that, and not sure when they stopped. hope this is some help.

There were some Oldsmobiles with left hand threads in the 1950's. I bet your 41 has some left hand threads also. Seem's like it would be easy enough to pull a wheel or just a lug nut and tell. On a Model T the right spindle has a left hand thread, but if memory serves me right, the left hand threads on the Olds are on the left side.

I recall that Olds Toronados of the '60s had left and right hand threaded lug nuts. They may interchange. This may also apply to Cad Eldorados too, but I'm not positive of that.

i sold the '41 Olds a year ago, but owned it for 25 years. Guess that shows how many times i ever had a wheel off of it. I'd still bet mine were all right hand thread but will defer Will's knowledge. Not my first mistake this week. .......... I bought our '41 plymouth in 1975 and found out the hard way that the lug bolts were left and right. I was dumb enough to snap a couple off before my dad suggested it may be a left hand thread. What did he know! I never forgot that Mopars of the 40's were left and right hand thread after that.
