Hi all I have had my model T for about 2 months now and it's about time i posted up a photo of my T. My wife calls it Oh my god. I call him Henry.
Congratulations. Watch out, they will multiply.
Darren,
I see why your wife gives it the name. This because I am assuming that the boat in the back that matches the rims is the body Just kidding.
Mine started in about that shape. I found a farmer that was willing to give up the body. (see my profile pic)
Enjoy and be careful.
Here is my 2 cents:
Just to get some momentum. The first thing you want to do is get the engine going.
1. by some gaskets
2. take off inspection pan, valve, trans covers and trough spark plug holes. verify things are good to go.
3. Check wire for spark (you can hook battery with jumper cables.)
4. set up gas system in a safe way.
5. make sure you engine has oil everywhere need
---a few more steps could go here---
6. get it running
After you have a happy engine...
-make sure front steering is good tight and everything is in working order.
-check rear end through inspection hole... verify gear is clean no rust. Also you can remove outer bearings...
If all looks good and you have done "100 point" inspection take it around for a test drive.
This is so exciting!
Thanks mate, mind you it dosn't look like this now. I have had it for 2 months and iv'e been very busy. I will post some more photos later on tonight.
looks like youve got a good start to putting one together! would love to see more current pictures.
one thing ive learned is when you put stuff together always find the correct or original way they did. IE using castle nuts, or ungraded bolts, etc. i didnt pay attention to this early on and now im redoing it all! lol
neat to see more people into it!
Going to make it a boat-tailed speedster?
Here you go.
Ts are alot of fun in that configuration, although youll find a windshield and steering column brace will be handy.
so does it run?
Darren,
Looking good.
I second Matthew's comment about the windscreen, ("screen" in Australia?).
Have a look at my speedster on my profile. I am in the process of building a larger screen. Even light rain stings the face at 50 kph.
Great job! Just right to have a lot of fun and soon your wife will understand that you aren't crazy after all
Ah yes, "wife"
a very good reason to have a practical windscreen.
Darren, it looks like you're ready for the installation of that boat tail from the first photo!
TH
Looking good, Darren!
This may sound like a silly question, having only been to New Zealand once and then only for a very short time unfortunately, it didn't seem like a place where one would find a lot of Model Ts.
Are there a good number of Ts there or are they pretty scarce, relative to the size of your country?
Danial,
reasonably common within the NZ Vintage Car movement. In a Veteran car rally, 40-50% of the vehicles will be Model T's. I have 3, (1 on the road 2 under construction) but could probably put together another four (sans bodies) out of the parts I have put away. I have approx 15 engine blocks (5 pre generator).
We have a very active Model T club which is a chapter of the MTFCA.
Crikey Danial, you won't want to go to New Zealand again. Those Kiwis get a bit upset when you confuse them with us Aussies in Adelaide. LOL.
Model T's are prevalent in Australia. they enjyted the same popularity they did in the USA.
Darren, I was watching that T on Ebay but forgot about the EST deal and missed bidding. Good on you. You certainly have done far more than I have time for at present. If you are free Tomorrow night the Model T Ford Club in Adelaide will be having a tea-time meeting to put our monthly magazine together, followed by a coil clinic. You would be most welcome. We meet at about 6pm at our clubrooms in the median strip on Port Road about 200metres west of South Road.
Check out the club's website at www.modeltfordclubaustralia.org.au for more information.
Welcome to the movement.
Allan from down under.
I won't put the Aussies down, (except for their ability on the rugby union field.) I have a gorgeous Aussie Grand daughter and another one on the way. I visit the Aussie family (Perth) regularly.
Oops! Sorry for the gaffe Allan...grin...I was looking at more than a few profiles and got confused. Yes, been to New Zealand and the Cook Islands but haven't made it to Australia yet. Keyword is "yet". I'll get there someday.
Wow, Gavin, I had no idea they were as prevalent there. Very cool.
Thanks for the info guys..
One of my best friends lived near Exmouth for many years. He was quite the adventurer and traveled in that area of the world extensively. He says he has plans on returning there in a year or two. I envy him.
We traveled there in 2006 and spent a short time in NZ and a bit of time in the Cooks. Very much regretted not making it to Australia as well. Loved every minute of it though, and hated to come home.
Hi Allan, I have only just read your post. I would have loved to come down to the Model t club. The coil clinic is just what i need as i have to connect the new leads from the timer to the coils. I also need to work out how to get power to the coils.
may be I can come to the next club meeting.
Cheers
Darren, next Club meeting is first Wednesday of Sept at the clubrooms at 8pm sharp. Best to get there a bit early and we can get some intros. going. A few photos to show will melt the ice for you. I will be pleased to show you around. We have planned to include the DVD from the last National Rally in Windsor, so there will be some entertainment also.
See you there.
