Hi I came into possession on a pair of cast iron headers. I think maybe 427 or 428 Ford. Part number coae 9430-b and coae 9431-b. Can anybody help me out as to what the fit and the value?
Thank,s Scott

Well, the casting would indicate 1960, if they look like a header rather than a manifold, they could be anything from a 360 hp 352 cu in on up. I'm thinking a 427 would have a later casting number like a C3 or something.

1960 Mainline Ford (Galaxie is A) They'll fit 352, 390, 428. The FE engines. 9430 and 9431 are the base numbers for right and left hand. If it has a RF in front of the C0Ae, that's the casting number.

I had a '62 Ford Convertible with a 390/tri-power 4spd. It had cast iron headers from the factory.

They will also fit the 406 which was used only in '62 & '63.

Those are good desirable pieces if they aren't cracked.

Thanks Luke, They are in great shape for being 50 plus years old. No cracks and a little rust-carbon on the inside. Scott

Found this in a 1999 ad. "F.E. cast exhaust manifolds: COAE 9430B & COAE 9431B, $400 U.S. pair."

I bought a 427 new in 1963 and I think it had it's own headers, different fron earlier versions of the FE. Either way, the price has to have gone up since 1999 so you probably have some money there. Found an ad for 427 T-bolt headers for $1500.

A little more info.....
"These are original exhaust manifolds for a 1960 Ford 352 cubic inch, 360 HP FE engine. The part numbers are C0AE-9430-B, C0AE-9431-B. These manifolds have been stored in a dry attic for over thirty years. The C0 in the part number shows that these manifolds were first used in the 1960 model year. They will fit 352, 390, 406 and 427 engines through the sixties."

Here's a link to the original auction

boy the hipo 352 is a rare bird, as i remember they had special heads with larger valves and a smaller combustion chamber that ramped up the compression quite a bit.

as i remember the hp numbers were impressive for that engine.

I worked with a guy in L.A. in 1960 and he bought one of those cars. Those were the days when we were impressed with 1 h.p. per cubic inch and that one made 360 out of 352 inches. I never got to ride in it though.

In 1981 a local guy I worked with told me he had some FE parts, and I went and looked them over, there was a set of these same FE cast headers, and a top loader 4-speed trans, and a Thunderbird 6v intake. He wanted 75.00 ea for the trans and headers, and 300.00 for the intake. I still have the trans and it's now rebuilt and waiting for me to start on my 65 Galaxy convertible. Three years ago I got the trans rebuilt and as I said it ready for the car once I figure out what shifter for it. If you think 75.00 is cheap remember that I was a college student working in a gas station and a good week my take home with 8 hrs of ot was 50.00. gas was 1.15 and a draw at the bar was 1.00. The trans today is worth between 1200-1500 and so is the headers.

My '62 showed up more than a few 5.0 Mustangs and other 'fast cars' of the mid 90s. They couldn't believe a big tank like that would run out like it did.

Aside from a little bit hotter cam and bigger mufflers/tailpipes it was essentially stock.

I bought the car out of Alabama in '96 and drove it back to FL. Took 98% of the money I had saved up from working part time at a funeral home on the night shift.

It's the one car I regret selling. I was getting hot & heavy into Y-blocks(still am) and a friend of mine offered what I thought was an insanely high offer for the car, so it went.
