Take a good look at the picture of the rear axle housing, right above the tag. It sure looks like a crack to me. I enlarged it and the bigger it gets, the more it looks like a crack. I contacted the seller about it and asked them to check for me and no response. So no bids from me!

Sure looks like a crack. The crack alone may not be enough to condemn the housing though. I would be concerned about what caused it. Perhaps the insides came apart and they are scrap.

perfectly fixable, however i too am interested as to what could have caused it. its an odd location for a crack.

Ken, That is exactly what I was thinking, that it would have came from exploded parts inside. I asked the seller to scrape across it with a screwdriver to be sure is wasn't cosmetic, but I didn't get a response. I almost didn't see it. Glad I did before I bid!

that would have to be a big explosion.

I guess explosion was the wrong choice of words for a model T. It goes back to my nascar crew chief days when something broke inside and wanted out, it usually found a way. If something broke in this rear at one point or another, the pieces could crawl on top of each other and wedge in place, thus trying to find a way out. It's all just guessing, but my point was, if someone was buying this to use, this would be a red flag to me that something may be wrong. The other red flag is when you point something out to the seller and you do not get a response, it puts doubt in my confidence level. Just my opinions. I hope whoever bought it, finds it to be OK. There is nothing worse than shelling out cash for junk. When I was a newbie, I did that often, but with time, it is happening less. Let's see how does that go---"fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!"

the best part is to find a defective part, buy it (or take it) for next to nothing. then fix it and have what you always wanted.

as far as parts wanting out we always call that "porting and relieving"

OK - it's sold now - might the buyer hang out here so we can get an eyewitness report of that Rückstell?
