I just acquired a nice 1922 Model T one ton truck. It runs great but there is a significant oil leak near the starter. Starter works fine. Suspect there is a worn gasket to replace. Any ideas what it is and how to fix the leak?

Thanks!
John

should be a gasket behind the starter and one under bendix cover, make sure screws that hold it on are tight

probably a gap where oil is getting through...

check where the starter mounts to hogshead, check bendix cover, and check where the hogshead mounts to the pan.

starter and bendix cover are easy fixes, just a matter of removing and replacing the gaskets, the hogshead to pan leak however is a...well...pain.

a thin coating of black or grey permatex will help seal things, plus the new gaskets are all paper, you would be better off cutting your own out of good quality cork.

Starter or bendix cover is probably loose.

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! I'm surprised nobody mentioned this. If you want to remove the starter to install a gasket, don't just unbolt it and pull. You have to remove the Bendix first or you may do expensive damage to the magneto.

As a new T owner, you should see this: http://dauntlessgeezer.com/DG80.html.
