Just a quick question..ok, two.
I'm putting my demontable wheels back together - reagan wheel press.
I have ordered the drums for the RM brakes as I'll be adding the brakes this winter. However, since I already have the wheels apart, I thought I'd go ahead and add the drums. They should arrive this week.
My questions are: My understanding is that the old drum stays on the hub as well as the RM drums. Do i understand that correctly?
As I'm pressing in the rear wheels ( With the wheel press), I assume I press in the drum and add the face plate following this procedure, no? And, if the drum is being placed on top of the spokes for pressing down and in, does the little rounded notch that is on the hub end of the wooden spoke face toward the drum? It certainly seems like it would.
Thanks,
Michael
Build your wheel normally, then put the larger drum on and then the smaller drum on. You need to get the longer hub bolts to do this
Michael, the rounded notch on the spokes is there so the spokes clear the radius at the back of the hub, next to the brake drum. You can put the wheel together with the press and it should stay put as an assembly with the hub in the centre. The brake drum/drums can be added at your leisure.
When I get wheels done in New Zealand, they come back assembled with a tapered wooden plug in the centre to hold things in place. My job is then to fit the hubs and brake drums.
Hope this helps.

Real Rocky Mountain Brakes were riveted to the Ford brake drum, so everything would work as Ford intended. The new ones are not, and are not even the same size.
