1. We had to machine down the rear surface of the master cylinder so that the nipple fitting would hit. (leaks otherwise.)

2. Had to add a part not in the kit, a 2 psi check valve due to placing master cylinder at the same height as the calipers (see text photo). Otherwise brakes progressively clamp down. "Wilwood disc brakes, residual pressure valve, p/n 260-3278"

Of course the brakes cause the car to stop on a dime, once the issues are worked out.

p.s. sorry if the images aren't loading... i've tried it a number of times with some rather random results.

I'm in the process of installing a Tharp kit on my '24 touring. What model car are you putting them on? Don't most cars have the MC a little higher than the calipers? If not, I would expect the kit to include the check valve.

Odd that you had to mill the MC down for the fitting to seat. Was it not the correct fitting?

hi steve: the mc in this kit is designed to fit right behind the brake pedal, at the same height at the calipers. yes, it is unusual for most cars to have that sort of arrangement, which is why the check valve is needed. regarding the milling, the fitting needed to be longer but rather than going out and finding one, we milled down the mc. i put the disc brakes on a 26 roadster truck. they work wonderfully, once the issues are worked out. best luck with your installation. cheers, cal.

On my 27 Tudor the calipers are way lower than the m.c.

I eyeballed my '24 Touring and the calipers appear to be well below the MC, so hopefully I wont need the check valve.

Cal,

Usually, the cause of brakes "clamping down" is that the master cyl. push rod is adjusted too long to where the internal piston can't travel back far enough to release the system pressure. Are you certain this isn't your problem?

Jerry,I think you are right when I first installed mine I discovered that the clevis was to deep and I ran out of threads I pushed the m.c. rod in just a hair to connect to the clevis. The solution for me was to drill another hole in the clevis so I didnt have to move the push rod to connect it.I told Ben about this and he said he was revising the clevis to be shallower.
