I am restoring a 1913 Touring, eng. casting #249663,April 7th 1913. Should this car have a 2 piece drive shaft or just a 1 piece?
Thank You,
Dan Ryan Goodhue MN
I think it should have the 2 piece shaft. The one piece shaft came along about June, sort of the same time as the beginning of the 1914 Model Year.
I have a friend with a 1913 touring and it has a two piece drive shaft.

I have a Ford factory photo of a '14 chassis. There is no date on it, but the dash has no speedometer or mounting holes for one, so the photo must be after the time in 1914 that Ford discontinued them. This car still has a 2-piece housing. So I'd say it's a safe bet that most if not all '13s had them.
This subject may never be explained fully, but it appears all '13s had two piece torque tubes, but there are sure a lot of them around that don't! I guess people left the cotter pins out of the four bolts, and the front ball got loose? I like them better. They are easier to work on.
My late '13 has a two piece shaft housing.
my late 13 has a one piece !!! very late.
