Philip ...Looks like it's pretty solid! Interesting side windows!

At the risk of double posting, for those that are in 'both' forums ...

I finally got my pickup project to the point where it's useable .... My wife and I threw some extra water in a jug for the radiator, and headed off to the grocery store .. a whopping 7.2 miles away! It's the furthest this ol' puppy has been on a single trip in 30 years!

Groceries!
Groceries -2
Groceries - 3
Last nightLast night - 2

I still have some hardware to fashion or source ... and mount: side braces, license plate and tail light bracket, tailgate latch mechanism

Great pics, guys. Looks like a lot of good effort on both fronts.

The youngest granddaughter spent the night last night so this morning, right after breakfast, all she wanted to do was go for a ride in the coupe. So we drove it to the school and played in the play ground for a bit.

When we left the school, she insisted on going for a longer drive instead of going straight home. She got no argument from me...grin... She loves riding in the T and waving at everyone.

Great fun!

Rick .... NIce! Wow ... it appears you have some seriously wide boards there! and full 1"??

Herb ... Wow ... that is seriously cool. Did you make it? I've seen photos and one of the videos of one in a museum, but not one 'out working'. I had wanted to make one since I saw the video, but knew I wouldn't have the patience for it. I was lucky to get my pickup bed done. :-) Fantastic job, if you made it ... and if not ... fantastic job, anyway!

Scott ...
Thanks ... I've been looking at them ... and have the book of forgings as well. The spring clip wouldn't be tough to make .. but I like the WBED1 better... and it's cheap. :-) Probably can afford it in another week or two! I would like to make myself, but haven't been able to get enough heat to bend properly ... yet. :-) For $20, including shipping ... it'd be DONE, though! :-)
Thanks

Yes, those boards my father in-law sawed about 20-30 years ago. Some of them were like 18" wide x 4/4. It use to be his truck until he passed away 3 years ago. I decided it would make good use of his lumber for this. All the lumber used for the box, he sawed.

Well I took the engine apart on the 1909 S/N 904. It was knocking real bad. Here's why:

Someone had recently rebuilt the engine. Rods were re - babbited, , main caps repoured, block bored, new pistons etc.

The rear cam bushing was not installed properly - the exhaust valve lifter on #4 was hitting it!

Pulled the '25 out of the garage and started to make some room so that I can finish it up. Boy am I happy with this one!

Of course I didn't get a whole lot done - spent most of the day talking to the neighbours as the stopped by one by one to check it out.

Matthew,
The third gear was for a water pump. See a pic at:
http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/118802/128695.html?1267896912

The first 2500 or so had a water pump till Ford figures out they did not need one.

Today I Fixed a Crank pulley pin problem. The one I got from Mac's basically slid through the hole with no resistance and wasn't tapered. Different than the usual "too big" problem. I just gave it a slight bend in the vise and put it back with a punch and new cotter pin..seems to be holding well.

I also took the Heat pipe off: even though I believe I had an ice up situation the other night , it does rob a lot of power, so It will remain under the seat till I need to use it . I will not put my Model A after market air filter back on at present either .

I tried replacing the Champion X plugs with the Autolite plugs gapped at .32 to see if it would run different . It actually ran better , so I regapped the Champion X's to .32 . I had them set at .40 per the Texas T distributor instructions.

Car is running great but I still think I have a knock, and actually want to open up the pan and have a look. My Dad says putting 10/30 detergent was a bad idea ... he says I should have stuck with the 30 wt. I really don't think that caused a knock: it probably was there all along but not as noisy. I have too packs of Green Plasigauge so I think I know what I will be doing tomorrow.

Herb,

Love the camper. Did you work from plans of any kind? I would be interested in making one for my'26 roadster. Where did you get your details?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Herb Spies - Ft. Walton Bch,FL on Thursday, September 06, 2012 - 10:48 pm:

Randy,

No drawings or plans. I took a trip to the RV Museum and they let me measure and take all the pictures I wanted. I then used that as a guide as I built the camper. For each compartment (and there are 4, inner cabin, outer cabin and the 2 side slideouts) I made a mockup and adjusted the mockup to what would fit my T. Then I used the mockup measurements to build the compartment using wood and aluminum. Some rework to get things right because you had to make sure all the parts would fold up and slip into each other.
