Question-do the new aluminum housing rear axle grease seals with the 2 o-rings and modern seals need anything more than the friction of the o-rings to hold them on the axle tube?Anyone using them use as is with no problem,or should there be a modification to ensure they stay in place?Just finished a rebuild on the rear axle and driveshaft and want everything done right the first time!!
My experience with them is that they just tap into place and stay there. I suppose a little duck butter wouldn't hurt anything, but I haven't needed it. There are two sizes, for early and late rear ends -- be sure you have the correct ones for your housings.
I have them on my car and they seem to work fine. I had maybe 6-800 miles on mine before I took those parts off to put on the Ruckstell.
They are/should be a pretty tight fit.. I would not think they would come of ... no where to go, for that matter! I have them on mine .. but only have maybe 20 miles on them, so can't tell you about the future. Speaking of the future ... One thing I haven't asked, is if they are re-useable, as when rebuilding a rear end. Maybe just replace the O-rings (if you can find the right ones)..???
As Mike mentions .. there are 2 different sizes, depending on your axle diameter. Seems like it goes by year, and is stated in the catalogs.
