I looked at a T today and noticed something strange. With the inspection cover off of the transmission, when I pressed the clutch pedal down, when the band grabbed the drum, the drum moved forward, like it was loose. Never saw that before. Is that caused by loose clutch fingers maybe?
Crankshaft end play.
Check to see if the lower pulley on the crankshaft moves forward when you push in the clutch. If it does, you have crankshaft endplay.

Thanks guys. I will go over and see it again tomorrow. The odd part is, it was only the middle drum that was moving, if I pressed the other two pedals, their respective drums stayed in place.
Its either a problem or a phenomenon. My vote is for phenomenon.
Ted,
I went back and looked at it today - the drum stays put when I press on the pedal.
Must've been imagining things yesterday. I swear I saw that drum move back and forth. Must've been out in the sun too long! lol
If it is crankshaft endplay, it will stay in position until the engine is run again. Then when you push the pedal, the crankshaft will move backward. This movement will only happen when you push the clutch, but when it does, all the drums should move together toward the back of the car. If the endplay gets bad, it will affect the operation of the magneto.

Thanks Norman, I'll fire it up and let it run for a bit, then check it again.
