I am working on a speedster and bought the steering column lowering ring and wedge. Tried installing and it doesn 't seem to fit without binding the column, tried moving the lower bracket to inside the frame rail, Better , but still binding. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks
I tried it using washers to make the angles, had to make the throttle rod longer which was ok but then the timer rod wouldn't go in the little arm on the end of the steering column. Maybe someone will post some pix to show how it's done. John
Put the lower bracket on the column. Then use several wood wedges like used around doors,to determine how big a wood wedge should be needed . The lower bracket should go under the frame as intended. Cut a wedge that fits and drill holes to mount. You may have to redrill the bolt that goes through the side of frame.
Thanks, Jack. So I should put the wedge on the firewall then make and fit the lower wedge?
That is what I did.
Also when you get the lowering done, turn your wheel from lock to lock and make sure the drag link is not binding up on the tie rod. You may have to bend the pitman arm to get the clearance you need. KB
Pics - anyone?
Theres those who know how then theres those who wish they did.
I raised the frame bracket to the underside of the top rail, made a stiffener for above, and dropped the firewall bracket with a wedge, and ultimately the dash bracket lowering the wheel almost 4 inches. I made accurate wedges out of hard wood like oak or teak.
This also pivoted the front pitman arm up which necessitated adding a drop in the drag link AND another drop in the tie rod to avoid contact with the pan.
I also added a front crossmember extension to lower the front axle 5 inches which made the "drop" in the linkage not too severe, otherwise they would rub on the inspection door on the pan and the front motor mount. troop

Troop, I'd be very concerned about that bend in the drag link. It looks to me like it wouldn't take much of a jolt for it to fold up like a book. JMHO.Dave
On the speedster I made two wedges. One is fitted between the firewall and the flange on the column and the second between the bottom of the steering column and the chassis.
Hope these pictures help.
