I wanted to snug up my radiator cap the other day and noticed that the hub cap wrench (T1349) fits the cap perfectly. Was this planned by Ford?
That scares me, and I'm fearless. I use a big O ring in the neck, and just snug it down by hand. It never loosens.
Who knew? I'd use it to remove a tight cap but would only hand tighten cap to avoid splitting rad neck. $$$$
Not only that, the flatted hole that fits the front wheel bearing also fits the camshaft nut

I like to snug them up so no one is tempted to borrow it.
I like to snug the caps up so no one is tempted to borrow them. They're not cranked down tight.
I've repaired a lot of those that looked like they were put on and taken off with a pipe wrench or chisel and hammer. That's got to be better.
I used to tighten my (very nice) brass hub caps only hand-tight until one disappeared and was replaced with a junk one. This happened one night while parked at a motel on tour. I've since used the Ford wrench to get them a little tighter.
I gave it a try today, great idea! Hum, would work great for removing a hot radiator cap too. Only thing I did different, I flipped the wrench over,
Mike,
I know what you mean. Parking in motel parking lots really shake parts loose.
Mark, Great tip - that makes it easier to slip the wrench on without scratching anything.
Mike W,
If it wasn't so disgusting, it could be funny.
On rare occasions, when I have had nice hubcaps, I put a piece of soft cloth or rag between the hubcap and wrench. I do tend to put holes in the rag doing that, but I figure it affords some protection to the cap.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
Wayne Sheldon:
I do the same thing, but seldom have any holes in the clothe
Wayne and Dave, I have a nylon strap wrench designed for oil filters that I use for a hubcap wrench.

Gordon Byers:
I have a rubber strap from Sears that I use on the headlights but I have a very strange wrench that fits the hub caps so I use it with a rag.
Mark, I took two photos and didn't use the one where I had the wrench flipped on the other side since it didn't show as much detail. The wrench does work best the other way due to the radius.
