Digging thru my "inventory" for generators since I have learned mine on the TT died,I noticed this 1 on the right is different than the others. Why is that?It has a different oiler, heavyer backside, but same bolt pattern and gear as T.
Strangly,it is a 3 brush unit, but it has 2 wires comeing out the side,1 to the cut out,1 to ground.
Any ideas why this is?
Looks like a cub tractor gen that has been made to fit a T. Dan
Model A maybe. But I would have to look at the shaft to see if there would be enough length to mount the T end plate and gear. The A had a tapered shaft where the pulley fit on. The pulley was held on by a bolt through the end of the shaft.
This thing would fit right up to a T engine.I compared the gear and such. There is no bolt holding the gear.
I was stumped, that is why I posted it.
Another reason, this 1 has 2 wires comeing out the top,if we could fiqure this out,it could be a regular regulator could be fitted to it.The holes the wires come out of are small and round.
I aint sure this thing is workable or anything, but it does have a 3rd brush.
i have no idea what it is but i like it!!!!
i have thought about adapting a different gen. to a model t.
Well it is kinda sad when you pickup a catalog and a aftermarket alternator is cheaper than a correct generator.
The fellow that checked the armuture in the 1 I took apart yesterday actually sugjested finding another generator and adapting it.OR adapting another armuture.I aint so sure I could handle all that engineering.
But if the stuff is laying around and you have the time, why not give it a shot?
i have a small alternator laying around here somewhere.Hum.
it really is sad. one theing ive been tossing around is if a vw generator can fit inside a model T generator.
the alternators look ugly aside from the fact they are modern. good parts are getting hard to find. and armatures are going to skyrocket in price.
The 2-wire with three brush generators are the same as the Model T except the field is grounded externally. The other lead from the field should still go to the "small" brush. Internally, the two large brushes are the same as Model T--One is BATT and the other is ground.
Mack - Contact me off-line if you want a better deal on a "new" generator.
Well I think the coil from a Techumseh engine would fit inside the houseing, and then put some magnets in place of the armature.Hum?
I mean all we want is about 6 amps?
Should be able to get 6 amps out of something.
howbout a lawn tractor generator?
only thing is the vw gen would be so available, plenty of spare apmerage, and the are everywhere. plus there tiny in diameter.
I've got a small Mitsubishi 40A alternator that looks like the internals will fit inside a Model T generator. The picture below is the same type I have mounted in the "Kenbota". I haven't taken any measurements but it looks close. I was planing on gutting the gen and mounting the alternator parts and an oil pump in the gen housing. The oil pump would be for the engine. The only concern I have is the alternator cooling. That's a necessity I haven't worked out yet.
