On Wednesday we met Roger Karlsson for a coffee at his home and visited his garage. It was a nice talk about Model T. In the hometown of Roger is a small museum for mostly Volvo cars but there are also two Model T. At one steering column i found a part that i dont know? Can anyone explain ist to me?
Here the pictures:
What is this?
Kind regards from Sweden
Michael
It was a pleasure to meet you and Petra I'm thankful you didn't post photos of the chaos in my garage Hope you're having a nice trip through Sweden
Last time I was at my hometown museum (only open at weekdays when I'm at work) only the TT truck was there.
I've seen this type of adjuster on another T in Sweden - it's Bengt-Olof Andersson's heavily accessorized 1919 runabout in Bredaryd, some 150 km north of my place. It isn't connected to anything and he's not sure what it was meant to adjust originally - but it was likely some kind of gas saving accessory placed between the carb and the intake?
I'm curious - I'll have to make a visit to the museum and try to see if this one is still connected to something?
Great pics, Michael! Love that old BP gas pump. I'm no help however, on your question.
Looks like it could be an Extra air device.
As a side note... My first car was a white 1958 Volvo PV 444. The car at the far left in your second picture looks a lot like it. (Wish I had it now.)
Looks like there is a very large nut on the firewall side of the device, and likely had a tube or something going down to the firewall?
In the driver's side engine compartment side, it also looks like there is a light colored 'hose' going from the firewall, up and over the coil area, and down towards the carburetor. It would be good to see a photo of the carburetor side of the engine.
