Two of the white tires on our '13 are turning gray. We bought the car several months ago and I've unfortunately lost contact with the former owner. He told me that he had "painted" the tires with a rattle can spray of some kind but I didn't write it down. Is there a brush-on paint of some kind---or some way to bring back the white? I can see when I scrub a tire with a brillo pad the "paint" comes off and it's gray under there. I'd sure appreciate any comments. The tires are "Non Skid" on the tread, 30 X 3, Firestone. (Sidenote: When in high school, class of 1955, I couldn't afford whitewalls for my '41 Ford so every week I painted the tires with white house paint. When I drove the car it always flaked off but I had whitewalls for pretty cheap)
I used plasti-dip in spray can to cover rubber floorboards, brake pedal pad and shifter pegs on a motorcycle. some of the young street racer guys use it to paint their rims. youtube has several plasti-dip videos . i sprayed my black rubber motorcycle parts white, I wanted my new motorcycle to look vintage. the plasti-dip has held up great for the last year or so .
You can make a black rubber floor mat into a white one for car show by spraying the black rubber with a paint (dye) that is/was commonly used on rubber bumpers. The last spray can of that stuff I had was an off white and was used on Corvettes. It actually looked wonderful with a nice flat rubbery finish that could not be distinguished from real white rubber. I also used it on a white rubber floor mat that had turned yellow and it looked perfect again. Search for Corvette rubber bumper paint or some such variation and perhaps you can find it.
I FOUND white tire paint on e bay. it was made to paint white walls on tires. search "white tire paint"
You guys are so lucky to live in a country that sells rubber in spray cans!
Kep,
they sell cheese in aerosol cans too. Tastes bloody horrible. (My wife and I tried it when we had a Philly Cheese Steak from a takeaway down the street from the Liberty Bell when we dropped by in 2005) :-)
