I am looking to see how my '24 roadster top should affix to the top of the windshield. I don't believe I have all the pieces. The top of my windshield frame side posts are open tubes.

Here are some photos ... I assume the loops under the brass windshield pivot thumb screw lock, should be pointed up, and a leather strap from the top, clip to it. There is one on both sides.

Further down, (only on one side) there is a stiff wire, that looks like it would clip to something on the top also ... and on it's base (both sides) .. is a bent flat metal piece (spring ?) for something.

Windshield frame - left

Windshield frame - top left

Windshield frame - middle left

Top frame - passenger's side

Folded frame - driver's side

The last photo is part of the folding frame. This driver's side is in pretty rough shape. Looks like the bows and top material was replaced some time ago .. probably when the inside was re-upholstered.

Thanks for any light folks can shed on this!

Looks just like my '24 Touring. It's normal. If no one has posted a picture in an hour or so, I'll go out and take one or two.

Do I need a pair of these? ... do they mount on the leading top bow??

That looks like what I have, Dennis (as best as I can remember). Give me 45 minutes or an hour and I'll post some pictures. (I am self-employed and work at home, so I often work for a while before I shower and get dressed - even on weekends.)

Yes, those top clamps mount to the inside of the front bow and fit over the windshield stanchion post, secured with a thumb set-screw.

Oh...

forgot, that loop fitting is for older tops, the one-man top uses just the clamps. There is no leather strap used.

And the metal clip is for the side curtain ring, you loop the side curtain to the clip. There should be 4 clips, 2 on each side. Under the screw fixing the lower windshield, and under a stanchion carriage bolt.

Okay, I went out to the garage and took some pictures. As Dan said, here are three sequential shots showing how it goes together.

PERfect! ... That'll be a simple fix to get the top where it's supposed to be! :-)

Thanks guys!

Dennis, you do not have a roadster top. It is a cut-down touring set. In the last picture you posted the support bar has been cut off. A true roadster top has straight front bows, not curved.

OH, man, Jack ... just when I thought I was on Easy Street, with my top! LOL ...

Here's a shot with the top up.
The main iron, going to the rear, and the upright are both straight, but the forward one is bent, and goes to a double hook 'keeper. I don't know what the lower hole is for (viewable in the far side of the photo below).... probably for another bow on a touring??

Should there be straps from the rear bow, down to the bow saddles, on the roadsters? Maybe only on the earlier ones?

Your top is like Jack posted, made up from wrong parts.

This is the look of a '23-'25 runabout 'One-Man' style top with the correct bows.

The top irons on your car came from part of these touring car irons... 1924 One-man style touring.

The irons you need should look like this:

I see .. on the rusty touring .. mine just has the forward piece whopped off, eh??

Where does the front facing horizontal piece go, when the top is folded down? Does it fold down, then? Seems like it is too long to go either way, unless it unhooks from the main arm.

Looks like there are no straps needed to hold down the rear bow, then?

Really can't add much to how the top works that is on your T, whoever did it thought the added brace was helpful, its sort of a Rube Goldberg top set now. That upper horizontal seems to be wrapped in tape or vinyl, maybe the whole thing is wood?

If you are going to use it, think twice, seems real hard for a passenger to enter with that 'low bridge' of top irons hanging down over the door.

On install of the top covering over a set of top irons and bows, there are two long length wise straps that go under the covering, from the front bow, over the other bows, is tacked to the rear bow, and then proceeds down to be tacked to the seat back tack rail. Those straps provide the tension to the whole unit.

'24 Touring top, but the strap function and position is the same on a runabout top...
