Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2012: Should I trim the flap?

Hey guys..

I'm trying to install my first tire/tube/flap.

The tire , tube, and flap are all new. However, the flap over hangs the rim by quite a bit. I'm not sure I could even fathom how the tire would fit over the flap and rim, so I can squeeze the tube in there.

Am I supposed to trim the width of the flap?

Thanks,

Michael

The flap goes inside the tire. Put the tube in the tire and air the tube up slightly. Then work the flap inside the tire so it is evenly spaced to cover the tube where it contacts the rim. Then place the tire on the rim.

Place the tube, then insert the flap over the valve stem, the one-piece flap has hole for it.

The fit and form the cupped shape of the flap around the tube, take time to reach behind the flap and be sure the tube is nestled within, don't allow any folds, a bit of air in the tube will help to fit.

The result is the tube is now fully protected by the flap which wraps around the exposed valve side of the tube, flap and tube nestled within the tire casing.
