Great video. Hate the audio.

Any chance there is a version of the video with the audio unmolested? The musak loop is extraordinarily irritating. It would be so nice to hear all those wonderful cars driving by instead.

Gheezz, Royce I took the audio out because it was so noisy with train whistles, piped 20's music, horn honks, a carosel, dulcimers, loud speakers and Detroit Metro Airport departures.
Not to mention my own zealous comments...If you watch it about a dozen times or more you'll not even notice the music..I promise !!!

Thanks for posting, Don. Was Bud deLong there?

Great video .. what a hoot! Boy .. if I only had an easy way to haul this thing .. I'm only 5 hours from there ! LOL

I'm afraid I have to agree with Royce, Don ... The music kind of makes it nice to watch, but hearing is a big part of 'being there'. I just unplugged my earplugs, but it would be pretty neat to hear all the other stuff too! Bummer on the Metro noise, though!

Regardless ... thanks for sharing!

Bud was in attendance. His "baby" grandson was with him. The little boy is now a young man, 16 years old, driving the T and taller than Bud!

I went to watch it, saw the time thing at the bottom and thought "NINETEEN MINUTES!?". Started watching it and enjoyed every one of them. Besides, that is probably as close as I will ever get to the OCF.
Thank you for sharing this.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

Great job Don, my wife and I took lots of pictures, but the video really tells the story of how much there is to see. Thanks for taking the time to post for all to see...Jim Derocher AuGres, Michigan

I had a great time seeing many of my fellow forum members. I understand from Tom Jr. that a few of you stopped by to say hi to him as well. I really enjoyed the opportunity to be Don and Jo Booth's camera car. They're great people and they didn't point out to my wife how far along their Fordor restoration has progressed. Fortunately I remain in my wife's good graces in spite of telling Tom Mullin that my wife was my mother and the original owner. She says if it had rained without her having her fordor, I would have been in deep trouble. It's amazing the friendly ties we create through our cars.

This morning I am somewhat of a celebrity. I came into work and people are telling me that my car, along with two colleagues from China, had an appearance on the TV news.

I came in late this morning so I could see my house guests off. They should just be clearing Windsor by now and well on their way to the Buffalo NY crossing. He used one gallon of water and ran through a quart of oil every 75 miles on his '15 Depot Hack. A couple of my neighbors came to show and voiced their disappointment that the wooden car in front of my house the other day wasn't one of my cars.

I had a chance to gloat at my son's expense. His '29 roadster developed a dead battery and he had to drive my van and trailer home while I enjoyed a nice trip down Hines Drive in my '16 along with Bob in his hack. The weekend was a ten!

THANK YOU for posting the video it was great.

For those of you who don't like the sound turn your speakers off and quit your b*^chen!

I expect constructive criticism at every thing I do. I'm not a film producer but rather a novice video-editor. Its all good because any comment will be used for future endeavors. Either way, a comment means they watched it and if the movie bugged them enough to say something then, they watch the friggin thing....
I would like to say what a wonderful time we had there. The experience was drastically enhanced by the generousity of Tom Miller and his wife Sue. They where very gracious hosts and more than generous with their time. Thanks Tom !!!

I did turn off the speakers and frequently turned them back on hoping to hear something other than a tape loop. Don, your video skills are great, but most of us love the music of engines and our old friends better than anything else. Regardless of all the other background noise it would have been enjoyable to hear what was going on rather than a computer generated assault on music.

I enjoy virtually any kind of music - well maybe not polka so much - but that stuff to me is not even in the category of music. It is a computer generated noise that wants one to believe it is music.

Hi Don - Wonderful video! Thank you for making and posting it. I saw Jim Cook and his '16 T Pickup several times, Brent Mize in his blue '13 Roadster twice, Sarah Zimmer and her Speedster, and of course you can't miss Tom Miller.
There was a brief shot of Bud DeLong driving by in his '14, but he was across the street and behind another car going by in the opposite direction. I'm not in the video, but that's ok. We had a really good time at OCF again & I encourage all of you to go see it and be in it if you can.

Keith

Royce, I understand what you are saying completely. To find music to match the background of any video is the hardest if not impossible thing to do. Also, Youtube requires you to have the copy rights to anything you post. The computer generated loops are the only safe way to go for me. I don't know how others get away with it but I like to sleep at night.

Keith, I hope you didn't get on the chopping block. I did remove about an hours worth of video to get the size down. I apologize if I did cut you out. The whole day was overwhelming to me and my wife. The camera tells the story panning all over trying to take it all in. Next year I hope to spend the weekend with my car there. Hopefully I will have a better approach to video taping the action. AND, a better choice of background noise....LOL !!

Hey Royce - Our 60 year old polka band is making a CD right after Wurstfest this year. Can I send you a copy? I'll be the bass horn player. Thanks for enabling us to enjoy the OCF vicariously thru your video Don. Now that I have an enclosed trailer, I might go up there next year.

Don - I'm not concerned if our T is in the video or not. If you'd like to see a picture of our '14, just click on my name to see my profile picture. I had the top up the entire time and my event id card is in the lower right side of the windshield - car #146.

I'm very glad that you made and posted this video so those who couldn't be there can see what it's like.

Thanks, Keith

Since I have recently lost a significant part of my hearing, I don't really care about the music or lack of engine noise in Don's video. I found I had a great time either way.

I did enjoy meeting Keith Gumbinger and I had a chance to admire his car. He also showed me where Marty Buffalini's car used to be parked.

I also briefly talked to Jerry VanOoteghem who was driving Brand B. I went back a couple of times to talk more but he, like me, was walking the show. This show really needs to be three or four days long so we can see the cars and talk.

I am claiming the title of Last Participant. I went back to retrieve my trailer and it was the only one left in the parking lot.

Allrighty then, since much frustration was generated by the freak'n sound on this piece of digital doo-doo. I made a unedited shorter version of the same digital doo-doo. I even went as far as enhancing the sound to 5:1 surround sound. So for all my Model T forum friends...CRANK UP THE SOUND UNTIL THE PLASTER SHATTERS OFF THE WALLS !!!!!

Steve - Another comment that can be heard is the it's "organized chaos", and it is, sort of. We are allowed to drive around the village so at times there might be lots of cars being driven on the streets of Greenfield Village. The area with the white tents in the backround is in the center of the Village and is the busiest area.

Here are some times when specific cars & drivers are seen. The times are for the original 19 minute video:

Jim Cook, '16 Roadster Pickup, @ 5:14
Steve Shotwell 7:10
Tom Collins "Same Day Service" Firetruck, 4:30, 4:37, 10:33
Sara Zimmer, Lime Green Speedster, 11:56
Red Hall, '26 Roadster, 11:53
Tom Miller, '16 Touring, 14:49, 14:59 and 15:40 & on with Don in the back seat.

Also, please note the museum owned and driven cars they give rides in. They use the T-100 '14 Tourings, a '15 Touring, a '26 Touring, and a Depot Hack. They do not have any license plates or event cards on them and are driven by museum employees wearing blue pinstripe shirts and black or dark blue vests.

Thanks again to Don for making and posting this video.

Keith

Gary, your '09 is fantastic. I learn something this weekend. We spent Saturday at the Old Car Fest and Sunday we ventured to Frankenmuth for the car show. It hit both the wife and I that while custom cars are fun to look at, the vintage cars are national treasures if not world treasures. While walking the 2500 cars that showed up at Frankenmuth it was difficult to tell just what you were looking at. They had a small amount of cars earlier than 1933 which got most of the attention. My brother took his self-restored Model A and finished in the top 25. People and the judges still appreciated the stock vintage car, especially the ones restored by the owners.

ROYCE, glad you liked the raw video. I will keep your thoughts in mind the next time I put a video together. But then I will disregard your thoughts if I feel in the mood to stir the pot....LOL !!!! THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR KIND WORDS. Do yourself a lifetime favor and plan a trip to the Old Car Festival. You will never forget it as long as the coils and commutators of life spark on....

For those trying to spot the Greenfield Village owned cars:

- The 1915 touring mentioned above is really a 1916.

- The real 1914 touring has Rocky Mountain brakes.

- The T-100 tourings have stock small drum rear brakes.

- Can you tell which cars have the True-Fire ignition?

Tom - I whole-heartedly agree that this should be a 3 or 4 day event. As it is, there were participants lined up at the Booth St. entrance way before 4:00 when the gates opened. Do you think there's any chance for this?

Thanks, Keith

Don ... great job on the video, and although I appreciate the time and effort you put into the dubbed in sound... I too, REALLY like the real deal. THAT's what put the bug in my butt to try and go next year! :-) Yes .. it appears to be such a large event, it seems a shame to have for just one day. Folks can spend a lot of time and money to go to something like that .. it would be good to get as much time there, as possible. It's one thing to set on the sidelines and show your car .. it's quite another to be able to participate in such traffic!

Dennis, you should know that it is a two day event. However, the village is open everyday and features many museums, tours and shows. The IMAX theatre is incredible to witness. So don't be afraid to spend as much time as possible because you really can't take it all in, in two days let alone one.

Hey Don, thanks for the compliment. I appreciate it. I agree with you. I have had quite a few fellows come up to me at recent shows saying how much they appreciate the older, original cars. One pointed at a '25 T bucket hot rod and said, "I bet there isn't anything on that car that was made in 1925." He was probably right. I have so many people come up to me and say, "I have only seen these cars in pictures. It is so cool to see one in real life." The enjoyment I get is from watching peoples' reactions to seeing, touching, and experiencing an example of automotive beginnings. It is a thrill.
