Working on a 23 model t delivery body already finished the frame Its a wooden body and wanting to paint it with a automotive single stage spray paint. What should I use for primer, spray cans of primer for auto work, or that hot rod black primer spray, for hot rods? What's the best primer for wood that will stick with an over coat of paint
Thanks Andy
Use the primer for the paint you intend to apply.
That way they will be compatible, others may not be.
For timber its best to thin the primer a bit thinner and brush the first coat on, that way if there is any open grain the brush will rub the primer into it. If you use a primer/filler (auto paints usually have such a primer) that fill well when sprayed thicker you can then apply coats to build the surface up to produce a smooth surface when you rub before color
I used house paint for this one.
I figured that since the paint and its primer were intended to coat wood and last in the weather, they'd be a good choice. (The black parts are automotive paint, acrylic enamel.)
Very clean styling, Mike - I like it
This is also house paint and primer.
Another forum member suggested Sherwin Williams oil based white house primer to start. I did this, then body filler to address defects. Over that, regular Centari auto paint. Very happy with the results, and how easy it was to sand out any primer brush marks. 1 quart can did all wheels, with a lot left over
Thanks for your help.
