Hello, Does anyone have any advice regarding the reconditioning of wood wheels? The wood has been preserved very well with the original factory paint however needs some moisture put back. My father was in the paint business for forty years with Sherwin Williams and prior to his death suggested a mix of Pure Gum Turpentine and Linseed Oil. I was told that this mixture would condition the wood and in the process return it to the original dimensions due to shrinkage. The problem that I have is that I plan to paint the wood black and I am not sure if the paint will react to the linseed oil mixture. Any advice would be helpful with regards to restoring the wood. Thanks, John
Father knows best, was that a movie or something? I paint with that mixture till they will not soak any more up. Let dry and wipe off the extra with MS and then paint. The wheels will not shrink any more for a long time. Dan
Do you use boiled linseed oil?
Dale, Yes use boiled linseed oil and pure gum turpentine mixture. Best if you can get "pure gum" turpentine as some of it is now synthetic.

Are you going to paint the wheels with Enamel?
Pure gum Turpentine is available at art stores, that's what I use on surplus rifles stocks. 50/50 mix.
Thank you,John.
