If you insert an extension cord into a power outlet on the outside wall of the house, and then hook a battery charger to the battery in your T and plug the charger into the other end of a different extension cord, the battery charger doesn't work worth a hoot. Don't ask me how I know this.... :-)

Once the smoke gets out of the equipment...well it's not much good anymore. :-)

Dick,

I have a nice automatic float charger that you must attach to the battery first or it will not shut off. Funny that it will keep the battery charged if you attach it to the battery first or will overcharge if it is connected to power first.

Mack, longer than it should have. I jiggled all the connections first before it occurred to me to trace the extension cord back to the tangle of extension cords that I had pulled it (them) from. Once I did that, the problem was solved.... Hey, if I were a genius, I'd be rich, right? :-)

I should have read the first line of this thread a little better before I stuck my foot in my mouth. LOL.

I've got a good one.

I had to drive my T at night (or actually very early in the morning) once, and I noticed the ammeter wasn't registering a charge. The engine was running poorly with the headlights on, and there wasn't much I could do about it. I stopped and opened up the hood to see if I could see anything. I pulled out my multimeter, which I always keep handy, and started doing some checks. With the engine running, one side of the cutout measured about 5.5 volts, and the other measured 0. I killed the engine and took a reading at the generator post ground, and it showed a dead short.

Finally, I realized that the choke wire had moved and sat itself on the generator terminal, shorting it out. I moved it, and the generator started working again. The problem was staring at me in the face, and I just couldn't figure it out!
