Hey guys, I'm going to be in San Diego November 8-12. Anything T-related going on the 9th or the 11th as I will have those days to explore. Thanks P.S. I guess it doesn't have to be T but that's what I'd like to do. THANKS, Steve
Hey Steve,
San Diego Model T Club annual auction of Model T parts at the Balboa Park Automotive Museum on Nov. 14th. Don't know if you can stay a couple of extra days?
Don't know of anything else going on T-related unless you're up for a drive around San Diego Bay with me in my car?
Thanks for the offer Bob. The only problem is I have no idea when I will be able to get away. I have to share my free time with 5 other people. Have a wedding on sat. Will have some free time on Friday,& Sunday only. Coming home Monday. I am hoping to get away for a little sightseeing. Any other things to see or do that a flatlander from Kansas shouldn't miss? Thanks, Steve
Maritime Museum on the waterfront near downtown. There are ships including a large square rigger "Star of India" also the Aircraft Carrier "Midway" Good food near there "Anthony's". If you are interested in sea life, there is Sea World. You need all day to see Sea World. There is also the San Diego Auto Museum at Balboa Park with many old cars and next to it the Aerospace museum. There are also many other museums and the famous San Diego Zoo nearby. There is also the Cabrillo National Monument on Point Loma with Rosecrans National Cemetery along the way and the old Spanish lighthouse at the point with a spectacular view of San Diego and Coronado. On a clear day you can see Catalina Island to the northwest and Tijauna Mexico to the south. There is also La Jolla, an artistic village to the northwest of San Diego, about 10 miles. There are beaches good for looking or bathing. The weather is usually still good in November, but the water could be getting a little cold. Across the bridge is Coronado, a beautiful city with an old victorian hotel, "Hotel Del Coronado". Built in the 1890's. The original power plant and wiring was overseen by Thomas Edison. If you are interested in the history of the area, you could visit "Old Town" This area has many of the original buildings built when San Diego was a Mexican settlement. Up the river about 3 miles is the Mission San Diego established by Father Junipero Serra along the El Camino Real. The first of the missions in California.
There should be something I have mentioned which would appeal to you and those with you. Have a good time.
Norm
For sure don't pass up a drive up to Point Loma. The view of the SD bay and outer islands is a must see.
Gene in Lake Tahoe
Thanks, Norman and Gene. I am definately going to try and go to the "Midway" and take that drive!
