Hello. My hubby and I are moving to the San Diego area in the next few months. I'm looking to join a local club and eventually, buy a T. I have so many fond memories with them. Sadly, I can't share them with Ben anymore as he sleeps a lot and his memory has become really bad. I have two little girls and would love to share this world with them. Please feel free to contact me with any information. Thank you!

Welcome Jenni. I've always wanted to meet your GPaw. I live near Culver City. I just got my dad's, now mine here and enjoying it. More smiles per mile in a T. I'm sure the clubs down there will be very happy to have you and your hubby. Have fun and see you on the road.

Welcome to the Forum, Jennifer. Hope you can continue your fond memories of Ben and his Model Ts.

We in the Long Beach club get an update about Ben now and again, and I used to always enjoy talking to him at meetings in prior years. His presence is missed, and his legend lives on in the Long Beach Club's annual, "Ben Yumori Award" for the member who drives the farthest or does the most for the club in the past year.

Orange County Club meets 2nd Tues of month in the top of the Santa Ana Amtrack station, and the Long Beach club www.LBMTC.com is 2nd Thurs. at F&M Bank in Los Alamitos. Please come visit before your move.

Can't you possibly get one of Ben's cars to keep in the family? He would be honored, I'm sure. He told me he had put 260,000 miles on his 1926 Roadster.

Jennifer, We have known Ben for many years both in the Model T Club but even more in the Horseless Carriage Club of America. Ben always brought his "Suitcases" to dinners and donated door prizes. Somehow he knew how many people were attending and everyone always got a door prize. Mary and I still have many of them in good working order. He always donated quality items.

We attended a Model T National Tour in 1999 in Fulton Missouri and Ben got a flat tire on his Music Wagon with one of those beautiful all white smooth tires. We all went in to dinner to eat and after the dinner when Ben went out to change his tire, it had magically been repaired.

Ben also told me of his days in the 1930's and 1940's and also explained the good times and the bad times. I will send you some more stories on the side later on. Frank Harris

I'm also fond of Ben, as he attended our T tours in Fulton Mo, and the HillBilly tours out of Springfield Mo, we were wondering how he was doing. I have several pcs from Ben's suitcase, and they are on display at my home for others to see, we all love him, and his Calliope. danuser88@ktis.net MTFCA member # 2088

Jennifer,
Welcome to the San Diego area. I am a member of the San Diego club and the Hidden Valley club. These are two active Model T clubs affiliated with Model T Ford Club of America. Next general meeting of the Model T Club of San Diego will be November 14 at 6:30 PM in the Automobile Museum at Balboa Park in San Diego. You get there from Park Blvd. Just north of I 5. Take President's Way to the west and go to the end of the road and turn left. You will see the museum on the right and there is a large parking lot right in front. Go in through the door at the left side of the building.

At this meeting we will have our annual "white elephant auction" There will be many automobile related items on sale. Some will be old toy cars, some will be Model T parts, some will be pictures of old cars and etc.

The Hidden Valley Club meets in Escondido at Charlie's restaurant October 3 at 6:00 PM. I have never been to one of their meetings, so cannot give you directions to the meeting. The president of that club is Larry Ciuffo. I'm sure someone in that club will see your post and give you directions to the meeting.

Depending on where in the San Diego area you live, one of these clubs will be best for you.

I remember your grandpa. He was at all the national tours with his steam organ. I liked the music, and the awards he always gave out.

Welcome to the area.
Norm

Hi Jennifer,
I'm a member of the Model T Ford Club of San Diego.
I sent you an email with the specifics of the 2 clubs in San Diego and contact info. If you're going to be anywhere near downtown soon, contact me and my wife and I will give you and your family a ride in our '17 touring around downtown, San Diego Bay, Coronado, Mission Bay, etc if you would like.
If you can send me your email address, we'll email you a copy of our latest club newsletter so you can see what's going on.
Looking forward to having you join one of our clubs. Take care and good luck with the move!
