ok, got the new 27 tudor coupe home, put the charger on it,put the charger on it, very nice car, put gas in in, oil ok, engine cranks over nice, gas poured out a vent in the carb? I shut the gas supply off, the car starts and runs good till the gas runs out and dies. what is making the gas overflow? thanks for any replies
The bowl is overflowing because the float is stuck. Take off the bowl and clean out the inlet valve, Don.
You never know.......maybe just standing with the gas in it over night it MIGHT fix itself.
When I bought the '20 Coupe I had the same problem when I gassed it up to drive it home.
I let it stand overnight and went back the next day.
Turned on the gas and it ran out again.
I gave the carb bowl a couple raps with a piece of copper tubing that happened to be lying around, it quit leaking, I drove it home and it's been fine since.......
Mike, you might check to see if it has a Grose jet. They are notorious for sticking. Dave
Mike, make absolutely sure the fuel shut-off valve at the tank works and works right. Also get used to shutting off the fuel every time you're not driving the car. If you park your car in a garage that has a gas water heater in it, a sticking float could make your life really interesting by emptying your gas tank all over the garage floor and the pilot light on a gas water will take care of the rest.
Mike, tell us the story of the car, how you came to be the caretaker of it. And any pictures would be great. Thanks in advance.
My grandpa drove a '27 coupe. I fell for T's cuz of his car. Aunts sold it to a fellow for $50 when grandpa couldn't drive anymore. They asked my older cousins if anyone wanted it (I would have said 'yes', but was only about 12 at the time). No one did. LOTS of regrets from several cousins now. Course, most of them are now about 80 themselves.
This is my third t, my first was a 25 depot hack, whick I still have, it runs but poorly, i really need someone to rebuild the engine i think. my second, I installed a furnace and a/c for it. it was a 25 fordor, you fellas heard me talk aabout on this forum. it was a nice car but it didnt run, i got a chance to buy this very nice 27 coupe it is completly restored. i will post some pics soon. i paid 8900 for it I feel it would win many shows, i just want a good driver. im very impressed with the improved version of the model t
Nobody has commented on the description "Tudor Coupe" in the opening post, which makes me wonder if I am the only one who does not know what that means. I apologize if it sounds as if I'm being overly critical or a smart a--, but I'm serious. I've had my '26 Coupe for 42 years, but have never heard of a "Tudor Coupe". Does such an animal exist? Jim Patrick
Well the coupe has two doors just like a tudor - I think this is the car Mike recently bought (congratulations) :

Jim,
"Tudor coupe" is like touring sedan, or coupe roadster. The terms are being used incorrectly by people that never learned the right way to use them. They have been used this way long enough now that I have given up complaining about it.
"Tudor" was Fords quaint way of marketing his new two door sedan that followed the center-door. Coupes have pretty much always been coupes, they never were roadsters until someone chopped them and installed a V8. Touring-sedan was an actual body style used by many companies in the '30s to imply that the sedan had a real, attached, trunk (good for suitcases and therefore touring). European and English marques still use the term, usually a sedan with a larger trunk. The combined term wasn't used in the '10s or '20s.
More recently, I have begun to notice sellers on eBad running the coupe and tudor together. Now, most coupes do have two doors, if you do not count the trunk hatch. And Tudors are a royal family as well as an architectural style. I have never heard either of those referred to as coupes.
Enough silliness (and griping) on my part.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
Thanks Wayne. I see. It is meant as a "2 door coupe", which is redundant because there are no Model T coupes with more than 2 doors. I guess it is like a "floating boat" a "flying airplane" or a "round tire" which are also redundant. Jim Patrick
Jim, Why does a chicken coupe have two doors??.....Becouse if it had four it would be a chicken sedan!
That's a very pretty 27!! Congratulations on the beautiful car. If it was mine, it would be a "Doctor's Coupe"! That is another term that gets thrown around a lot but that there never were any produced.
thanks very much roger, very nice to see a pic of my car here, im not good with posting pics, and thanks everyone for the nice comments I got it started today, float was sticking, corrected that, car runs and drives good
YAY Mike......
Did it "fix" itself or did you have to in after it?
GO in......duh
Mike, always remember to shut off the fuel at the tank when you're not driving it. These old floats have a mind of their own.
You don't want to empty that cowl tank all over your garage floor, especially if there's a gas water heater in there. I got lucky, I have an electric water heater.
had to go in after it thanks all the tudor coupe lol , has 2 shut offs, i use them both
