Tribute to L. Reed Olsen "The Rattler"
by E Anjannette Newitt Olsen on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 12:52pm ·
L. Reed Olsen was the second born son of Lawrence and Eleanor Daley Olsen. Born and raised in Spanish Fork, Utah. He was full of life and creativity. He married Vee Ann Jeffs of Provo, Utah and they were blessed with three active boys. He was a great father, leading his boys on treasure hunts, leaving "reindeer tracks" in the yard on Christmas eve, and teaching them all about the world of nature around them. He taught them to work hard and play hard too. After graduating from college he worked for the Bureau of Reclamation until retiring. Reed was an amazing artist! He was gifted in watercolor as well as oil. He illustrated a children's coloring book on water conservation. He had his own art exhibit in Spanish Fork where he was honored as artist of the Month. Reed loved people. He could be giving without though for himself. "The Rattler" as he was called loved restoring Model T Fords and other old cars and trucks from the time period. He was a true gentleman Cowboy with all that goes along with that. He could "spin a yarn" that would have his listeners in stitches... Yes, he could make others enjoy time spent with this amazing father, brother, grandfather and friend. Reed "rode off into the sunset" Monday September 5th, 2012. There was a celebration of his life by close family held in the canyon where he loved hunting with his family. He will be greatly missed.
As his brother said, "Adios" Pardoner. We love you and will miss your smile.

RIP old friend!

I got to know Rattler when he put out an APB out on the correct VW oil pump for one of his T projects. I sent him a couple of different pumps I had and one pump filled the bill. Rattler sent be back a very nice letter and drawing of what he was doing with the pump then insisted on paying me! I had no intention of accepting any payment from him and told him so, but a few days later a check was in my mail box.

It seems good friends sometimes come along in your life when you least expect it. I won't forget you my friend. Thanks for sharing your wit and kindness with me for that fleeting moment. - John
