I am having a hard time selling my 14 so I might just keep it and change out the body to an 11 or 12. What do I need to do to put a 12ish body on a late 20's frame? Plan B would be to sell the 14 body and put a 12 body on the 20 something frame. Does the frame need brackets? Can I do it with nuts and bolts or do I need to hire someone to weld braces on it? I have a 12 torpedo roadster body and its foundation and it does not fit the frame. Any suggestions? Thank you in advanced. Bob
Here is John Regan's drawing of a 1909-13 frame: http://www.funprojects.com/pdf/FPIframe.pdf
The basic dimensions and body bracket placements are the same up through 1925 model year.
1926/27 frames are similar but differs a lot where the bodies are fastened - see this drawing: http://www.wescottsauto.com/Tech/FrameDiagram1926-27.pdf
"Late 20's" may also be Model A:http://www.wescottsauto.com/Tech/FrameDiagram1928-31.pdf
- or do you have a non Ford frame? Pictures of what you have would make it easier for us to give advice.
you need an early frame for the early body
Thanks for the links. Mine might be a 26-27. Do you see otherwise? Maybe that is why the 12 roadster body does not fit. I thought it was an early 20's frame. What do you think?
Actually, I only have two body braces on each side - one in the middle and one near the brake lever. The third one on each side is at the very rear. The frame there4 appears to be an early frame.
Robert,
If your 'late 20's frame' is not a New and Improved late '25-'27 frame, your '12 body will simply bolt up. If it doesn't have the larger/longer rear cross member and the 6 body-to-frame brackets, it'll work for you.
You will have to remove that gas tank to put a 1912 Torpedo body on as the Torpedo has the tank on the deck. Am not sure of what body you have as you also say that it is a roadster.

Check out my profile picture... My body came off a 100% true 1912 chassis. I now have it sitting on a 1920 chassis, here's what I did to accommodate mine.
1 - cut 2 inches off each side of the rear cross member in order for the narrow body to fit.
2 - I had to drill new holes for early firewall brackets.
3 - do a lot of test fitting.
4 - do a lot more test fitting.
The rest of the body mounts and brackets lined up perfect.
When putting mine together I started at the radiator, worked to the rear and fitted everything moving back. After mounting the radiator I sit the hood on then the firewall that gave me the location for the new holes I had to drill in he frame for the firewall brackets... Take your time it's a very easy process kinda like reverse engineering, if I can help or answer any questions let me know.
One other suggestion would be trade me your 1914 touring for my 1911 roadster.... Now I like that idea.... :-)
