I received an e-mail that "Rattler" L. Reed Olson had passed on Sept. 5th 2012. He will be missed in the T community. The Daily Herald carries his Orbituary. My condolences to the Olson family. Mike Husted

I also got an email about Rattler. He was a good one!! He only lived a little over 125 miles from here years ago and I used to see him quite a bit. His brother Ollie is in Kanab and Rattler was down there close to him in recent years. He had a great speedster that went to a young guy in Iowa two or three years ago. He loved T's.

Was he the one who had eye damage from a table saw accident a few years ago?

RIP old friend!

I got to know Rattler when he put out an APB out on the correct VW oil pump for one of his T projects. I sent him a couple of different pumps I had and one pump filled the bill. Rattler sent be back a very nice letter and drawing of what he was doing with the pump then insisted on paying me! I had no intention of accepting any payment from him and told him so, but a few days later a check was in my mail box.

It seems good friends sometimes come along in your life when you least expect it. I won't forget you my friend. Thanks for sharing your wit and kindness with me for that fleeting moment. - John

L. Reed Olsen

"The Rattler"

L. Reed Olsen was the second born son of Lawrence and Eleanor Daley Olsen. Born and raised in Spanish Fork, Utah. He was full of life and creativity. He married Vee Ann Jeffs of Provo, Utah and they were blessed with three active boys. He was a great father, leading his boys on treasure hunts, leaving "reindeer tracks" in the yard on Christmas eve, and teaching them all about the world of nature around them. He taught them to work hard and play hard too. After graduating from college he worked for the Bureau of Reclamation until retiring. Reed was an amazing artist! He was gifted in watercolor as well as oil. He illustrated a children's coloring book on water conservation. He had his own art exhibit in Spanish Fork where he was honored as artist of the Month. Reed loved people. He could be giving without thought for himself. "The Rattler" as he was called loved restoring Model T Fords and other old cars and trucks from the time period. He was a true gentleman Cowboy with all that goes along with that. He could "spin a yarn" that would have his listeners in stitches... Yes, he could make others enjoy time spent with this amazing father, brother, grandfather and friend. Reed "rode off into the sunset" Monday, September 5th, 2012. A celebration of his life was held by close family in the canyon where he loved hunting with his family. He will be greatly missed.

As his brother said, "Adios" Pardoner. We love you and will miss your smile.

Its a sad when we hear of the passing of a fellow T friend. Did only meet him a couple of times in passing but the Ratler made a lasting impression. Does anyone know how old he was?

Good Bye Friend You will be Missed.

Reed really knew how to enjoy his cars, particularly the 'T's. He wasn't afraid to drive them. He was always most encouraging of my projects when he would stop by.
All who knew him will miss him.

His cars are still being enjoyed. I wasn't able to do much with the speedster this year as I wasn't home at all but his green and wood pick-up gets used by one of our friends. When I bought the speedster, he took the time to hand write out all of the different quirks about the car (2 pages worth) and he also gave me a binder with everything from a drawing on a napkin to tour maps they have been on with the car. I've always thought that was special to have gotten the book with the car. He was a pleasure to deal with and took his time to answer many questions I had about the car along the way. Thank you Rattler.
