Here is a picture of Les and his bride on auction day beside there 1903 Ford model A. I cant help but wonder how he felt the day after the auction when he got up and looked in his garage and there are no more cars. All that work and all the years he spent in our hobby. He did very well at the auction, maybe the money takes the place? I don't think so. Less did years of research on his cars, and did a fine job. He was good friends with Cecil Church and Cecil Ralston. Between the 3 of them, they had quite a pile of early alphabet Ford cars. Anyway, it was a nice auction and i enjoyed being there.

Kim,

I wondered the same thing. In my brief communications with Les, I could tell that he truly loved the cars, people and history. He is one the last old time collectors who could have cared less if any of these cars were ever going to be worth a dime. That wasn't the point however and they threw themselves into it, just for the fun of it.

It would be nice to think that Les kept one or two trinkets to play with.

He did tell us that he was keeping 2 cars, one was a Model T and I don't remember what the other one was.

Another thing I asked him is if he lived on a farm or acreage and where he stored the cars, and he told us he lived right in town!

He has a modest home with a "standard" sized garage and walk-in, (drive-in), basement. Most of his stuff was in a building across the street from him. It was fairly packed.

The car I noticed missing from all the auction sheets was a 1904 Curved Dash Olds. It was very nice. Hope he kept it!

There was some interesting left overs including some 34 Ford body sheet metal in a barn close buy, did that stuff sell also?

Except for a little for early Fords, I didn't notice any sheet metal. The parts were mostly chassis and drive train. Of course that's what I was after, so I may not have noticed a little bit of sheet metal.
