Without doing a lot of research on my part, does anyone know how to tell pre 26 spindles from 26-27 spindles? Are the casting numbers different? I know the 26-27 spindles had the bearing/hub shaft, closer to the middle of the spindle body to lower the car, but I think the difference is difficult to see unless you have two different spindles side by side.
On pre-26 spindles, the axle is centered on the spindle. 26-27 spindles have the axle offset effectively lowering the car.
The 26 - 27 is on the right and pre - 17 on the left. 17 - 25 in the middle.

Thanks to all. I think the photo that Jim Thode posted will help me identify the spindles in question.
The spindle on a 26-27 is on a different angle to the king pin than the earlier ones.
IIRC the 26-27 spindle is aprox 2 degrees off perpendicular and the earlier ones are aprox 3 degrees off.
