Will 26-7 arms work on a 23 rear end? If I'm looking at this right the bolt hole spread is the same. The 23 holes are 1/8 closer to the center line of the axle. This would make the pre 26 rods a little longer, if I'm thinking right. But can't I make this up in the nut end of the rod? Thanks in advance, Bob.

The 26-27 radius rods are different. They are made to fit the larger backing plates. Some of the later ones did not have the two adjustment nuts on the front end but have a flange instead.

Bob Shirley:

If you live close enough to pick them up I have lots of earlier rear radias rods.

Thanks for the offer Dave. I'm 20 miles south of Texarkana in Atlanta TX. It would be at least a 2 day drive. I would love to meet you, but need to say here and look after the Mrs. Thanks again, Bob

Came up with a pair. Here is the difference that I see. the bolt hole spacing is the same but the Y is bigger on the 26-27. Also the 26-27 is shorter.

As you see, the later rods are a bit shorter in length, but a bit longer in the "Y". You can USUALLY get away with using late rods on early rear ends. Depending on the style, you may have to use a very precise spacer or stack of washers on the "fixed" end piece (shown in the photo above). You may barely make the length with the forward nut.
You cannot use the early radius rods on the later rear end without a LOT of rework because they won't otherwise clear the brake cam assembly to bolt onto the late housing. The exception being if you use RM outside brakes and eliminate the inside brake assembly. A very bad idea. When using any outside brakes, the inside brake should be retained and functional as the emergency/parking/alternate brake system independent of the outside system.
If anyone near me needs a late set, I think I have one nice pair I will never use. Such a deal (Free to forum members.)
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
