HI all,
My everyday truck, a 2004 Toyota Tacoma SR5 w/tilt steering wheel has a problem I can't seem to figure out. Suddenly the wiper no longer works on intermittent and low speed. It only runs on high speed, and does not "park" the blades either. I tested the motor, and it does high, low, & Park, so I bought a new switch ($150) but no change.
Any ideas? The rains are coming!
T'ake care,
David D.

It may be possible that your ignition switch is the cause of your problem.

I was having problems with the accessories (headlights, fan blower motor running only in high, etc.) with my Pontiac Grand Prix.

I found the cause and solution to my problem after searching the internet and doing some simple diagnosis with a multi-tester.

It turned out to be the ignition switch which actually contains six individual open/close contact switches within the housing. Circuits for accessories that operate only when the ignition switch is on such as windshield wipers typically run through the ignition switch.

I removed the switch from the steering column, disassembled it and found three sets of contacts hard carbon build-up do to arcing from opening and closing. Cleaning the contacts and reassembling the switch solved my problem.

Does the wiper system have a resistor block to control the wiper speed? If so, change that out - usually when a resistor block fails, the component it controls runs only in high speed...

Greg,
No resistor block, uses a third brush according to the wiring diagram.
Erik, That doesn't show in the wiring diagram, but one never knows!
Thanks for the hints
David

Is there not a contact set in the motor assembly for the park function? it could be stuck.

That's why Model T's didn't come with windshield wipers. Ahh.. the good old days.
